Looking at their sales (not chart positions) since they debuted..

Album #1 - 1.2 million sales
#1 single - 500K
#1 single - 350K
#6 single - 300K

Album #2 - 650K
#1 single - 220K
#1 single - 330K
#8 single - 300K

Album #3 - 350K (so far, but all three singles have already been released so it'll probably only make about 400K)
#1 single - 300K
#2 single - 150K
#16 single - 100K

It's clear that they're doing progressively worse with every album release. The fact their latest album had two X-Factor performances - one on the finale weekend - AND three singles yet the album is only on 350K is quite poor. They don't seem to release in any other country besides the UK and Ireland (whilst The Wanted are making a good attempt and One Direction have plans for the US) and their material has never really been rated highly by critics or the public, with many people saying their latest releases have been the worst yet.

Apparently they're doing the Sports Relief single this year (probably just for another #1) but after that I can't see their fourth album even going platinum.

That silly "DO you see what I see" garbage hurt my ears. It was just dreadful. Not to mention the fact that their voices have been pitched by producers so that their live performances sound strained and out of tune these days. They're just.. bland and overmanipulated.

They have the talent to be able to make real music, do something that's a bit more.. erm... well, less crap. IT's all about the record label, though. That flaming record label screws over everyone and their mother to make a quick buck and before they drop someone like a hot potato.

Nobody should ever sign a contract with syco. Ever.

I thought they were with epic?

Regarding the main question, I think they'll get a fourth album out (following the same pattern as usual), perhaps a greatest hits/singles collection, farewell tour and then I reckon they'll call it a day or take a break.

I assume as is standard these days they will do 5 albums and be dropped.

Bands simply don't have the longevity of older bands, egos get too big too quickly and they break up sooner rather than later.

They already have in house competition from One Direction and The Wanted also compete for the same fans... they are the Damage of the generation whereas Westlife were Take That until Take That came back and made them irrelevant. The Wanted are the East 17/Boyzone perennial runners up guys. 1 Direction could end up as the next Take That or the next S Club 7 depending on how their egos and management take things.

They tried to crack America and Simon even pimped them out to Ryan Seacrest but they flopped miserably...they keep rush releasing their material which also damages sales because the quality of the albums are bad and the singles aren't as good as previous ones...apparently they've nearly finished album 4

I think JLS did so well with their first album because they had no competition...once other boybands like The Wanted and 1D started coming in their sales have dipped. I think they'll probably manage to hold on for another album or so, and they'll probably decide to release a greatest hits/compilation of sorts...

I wouldn't be surprised if one or two of them decided to go solo...the band itself has a very limited shelf-life now so its either go it alone or stay with a sinking ship...

I agree. One more album, greatest hits and tour. I don't even reckon they'll specify they're taking a break, I can see them going on some everlasting hiatus like Girls Aloud.

I wouldn't even be surprised if the greatest hits comes this year. The Sport Relief single is breaking their routine!

I'm sure it got released somewhere that they had a 5 album contract for 5 years, all to be released around christmas period. So i'm sure they'll manage to get to that, either have the 5th album as a greatest hits, or flog around for a deal for one, which i'm sure won't be too hard.
They just keep doing the same thing and people are getting bored and moving on to the next big thing.

I don't even think their label has faith in them lasting that long since they keep rush releasing albums out every year. They'll probably release another album this year in time for the christmas market followed by a singles collection next year and that will be it. A couple of them will probably try their luck at a solo career but will probably end up making the rounds on I'm a Celebrity and Celebrity Big Brother before fading away.

I think they'll be around for another 3 years or so. I expect we'll get a re-release of this album, a new album late 2013 promoted through 2014 then a Greatest Hits in 2015.

Pop groups seem to have wised up a bit now - after the several failed reunions (Boyzone, 5ive, All Saints, Eternal) acts seem to have wisened to the fact that it's best to ride a wave for 7 or 8 years in the first place than let your egoes get the best of you after 4 years then desperately try to regain your glory later.

JLS are another band who bring most of thier money in from things other than album sales and actually for a pop group to still be going platinum by thier third album these days is really good.

The sad thing is that on X-Factor they showed SO much potential. They were very modern, great performers and some of their performances (Working My Way Back To You, The Way You Make Me Feel) were brilliant. They looked like they could be the next big r'n'b boyband yet they've released utter trash.

Pretty much already admitted they're in it for the money havn't they? Clearly no real passion there.

Hopefully soon though.

I think they could be around for a few more years at least. They still have a big fanbase. But I don't think they'll ever have a hit as big as Beat Again again.

I was a big fan during XF and for quite a while after, but their music has gradually got worse. 2nd album was terrible, didn't bother with the 3rd because I didn't like the singles.
They'll be around for a while yet though - from what I've seen a lot of girls love two of the three boybands of the moment and despise whichever third one is left. Seen all combinations of that. Whether they outlast the other two boybands is coming into question though, especially as both of them seem to be looking at promising US careers, which JLS failed at.

Plus, is it me or do they sound worse live now than they did during X Factor? Even the few live performances around of them before the X Factor show better vocals than now.

Hopefully not long! There are too many boy bands and at least one of them is gonna start to crack under the pressure first and based on those figures, I know who my money's on!
