Whenever you would see one of those benefit related stories in the paper, if the family had a plasma TV on the wall they would be blasted for it. I just wondered if that is still the same these days given CRTs are rarely sold and 42" TVs can be bought for as little as £300, same price as 28" CRTs were 10 years ago.

Also how many people still have a CRT in the main room of their house ?

I think I'm right in saying Plasmas are the cheapest new TV you can get these days, so to the original question; no.

It goes 3DLED >>> LED >>> LCD >>> PLASMA >>> CRT

Although I would say CRT still has the best picture quality, but that's a discussion for another thread.

Only if it's hung on the wall above the fireplace or at standing height. Then you know it's just someone selling the ideal home myth that doesn't really bother with tv. There will be a dining table with a narrow cloth down the middle of it nearby as well.

Normal people have them at the same height as an old tube. Even if they're on the wall.

I always find it strange when people (police in particular) describe plasmas as a luxury item, making it sound like it costs tens of thousands.

In reality everyone I know his either a plasma or LCD. Students to oaps, well off to people who have never worked.

It might be a bit high, but I suppose it stops little kids running into them.
Anyway I had a plasma for 6 years until it "went" recently and until I can afford the latest one I am using the old style one we had in our bedroom and you know what? I forget I am watching it. Still have the surround sound but at the moment I am really not bothered,

Plasma tv are all over 42 inches.
When watching 42-55 inch TV's the best picture quality will be viewed on a Plasma especially 3D smart tv like a Panasonic.

What goes?

Are you an AV enthusiast? Do you know something I don't?

The VT30 and Kuro owners might wish to add their bit.

I have a CRT TV in my room, has lasted me a long time so I see no reason to get rid of it.
My mum has a CRT TV in her room and so does my younger brother.
We also have 2 LED TVs. That's a random mix.

I was referring to pricing, although your more than welcomed to view it as in order of superiority.

The moaning right-wing press still like to talk about flat screen TVs, blu-ray players and satellite TV as expensive luzuries. though that's mostly to push their vile agenda against people on benefits..

I would never describe 3D as "the best picture quality". A nauseating headache more like.

You can't really put it order like that. You can get cheap 3d LED TV's just as you can get cheap 3d plasma's. You can also get very very expensive 3d plasma's vice versa. Quality wise a plasma is better for 3d content.

I can't do 3D for more than a few minutes, it does my head in!! the wow factor wears away after a bit anyways. Give me a decent flat LCD which does a crisp sharp picture with good colours and that's all I need really.

Passive 3d is better for avoiding headaches.

I've tried both and can't watch active 3d for more than 15mins.

To be honest I don't think 3d is an improvement, it is more a gimmick.

It is the agenda by the capitalists to force everyone off benefits and into slave labour.

I've got a Kuro and I've yet to see anything match it in terms of picture quality....

In my case a big TV is not a sign of extravagence but more about how bloody short sighted I am.

I don't think I know anyone who still has a CRT TV. In fact I do, a friend still has dead one in his spare room as it's too bloody heavy to shift.

The one thing I cannot stand is wall mounted TVs, especially above the fireplace. You must get a crick in your neck watching it. Surely the screen should be at the same level as your eyes when sitting down?

In most high street stores you can't in fact buy a full sized CRT (although there are still some portables).

Even online you would likely find 1 CRT for every 99 Flatscreens.

So whilst plenty of people do have CRTs (because many see no reason to replace something that is still working) as their life comes to an end (the TV, not the people) they will likely get a flatscreen because that's all that's available.

we have a crt in the bedroom, we are going to get a flat sreen at some point but when we got our own place we wanted one in the bedroom and I had my old one from years ago sitting in the spare room so we took that with us. The one in the sitting room is a 42inch as my partner is a gamer and he says can't play xbox on a small tv.

But the crt one takes up so much space
