Details of the new tariff here. In summary, it will cost £36/month on a 24 month contract, and include 2000 cross-network minutes, unlimited texts, data and calls to other T-Mobile customers. 08 numbers are also included in the allowance.

Anyone interested by this? It could be worthwhile for people looking for high-end smartphones, where Three can charge up to £40/month. But for cheaper phones, £36 could be a lot to pay when The One Plan can go as cheap as £25/month.

At least there will be another 'truly unlimited' plan to choose from...

Including 08 numbers is interesting. I'd also like to see if they're offering an MMS allowance - that's something I really wish the One Plan had.

Came across this earlier. I would also like to see an MMS allowance cos I used to have that on my old Orange panther 30 plan, now I am on Panther 36 and no longer have the MMS

I like T-Mobile's network where I live (my girlfriend has it). 3G coverage is excellent. But it's just a shame the 3G has that silly speed limit on, 2Mbit I think. In this day and age it seems so antiquated.

It doesn't have the limit if you have a tethering plan I believe. Orange users on the T-Mobile network can request their account to be enabled for the higher speeds, so would imagine T-Mob customers can ask the same too.

I hope they offer this cheaper on a sim only plan and allow tethering and hopefully no speed caps.

Yes but with the tethering plan it is suddenly not as affordable. I don't need a tethering plan but I've got a good phone so I want a connection faster than 1.8Mbit. If T-Mobile offered me a similar deal to Three but got rid of that silly speed limit I'd definitely switch as I'd appreciate the better 2G coverage T-Mobile offers.

I think more than likely t-mobile will continue to cap users to 1.8mbit even if their phones support 7.2mbit and faster.

What I am curious about is if Orange follow suit and modify their tariffs to match t-mobiles.

1gb of data and 900 minutes is plenty for me on Orange too.

My BIGGEST concern is how the network copes with people tethering and hammering the network because they simply can.

Sounds like a good plan that will sell well among the casual consumer.

Few things I'd like to clear up though-
- is it truly unlimited internet or 500mb cap + unlimited browsing?
- is it capped at 2mbps or not?
- Does it include tethering?
- Exactly how many calls to 0800 numbers do we get?
- Is there an upfront cost on new phone releases? How much?

It'd be a hit plan if t-mobilw have good answers to those questions.

Thanks for the link^

That sounds excellent. Still not sure whether the speed will be capped at 2mbps though? And if the current fair use policy applies (500mb) But thats unbelievable that T-Mobile are offering truly unlimited internet with tethering! T-Mobile and Three are the only company to do this atm which means other companies will probably come up with their own Unlimited Data plans in the future.

Pricing is quite competitive too. Its pretty much the exact same (sightly more) price that Three offer on the iPhone, S2 and XE. I can see a lot of customers signing up to T-Mobile now, especially with the negative rep Three have for their coverage + customer service.

Now all they need to do is offer it on other phones at a cheaper price + a Sim Only variant for say £27ish pm.

It won't - the networks backhaul has been strengthened recently and is as strong, if not stronger, than Three's.

Hopefully it will continue get really strong because if a lot of people are doing unlimited tethering it will absolutely kill the network for both Orange and T-Mobile users.

Trust me they won't. There is no point in both brands offering this.

Not strictly true. I'm an orange customer and i got this deal through retentions at the end of my tariff in Nov/Dec 2011. I thought it was too good to be true (i was about to leave and get an android phone) but looks like they already knew these tariffs were coming so didn't mind offering me the same thing.

My tariff is slightly different but still great value. I get 2200mins xnet, unlimited landlines, unlimited texts, unlimited data (no cap), unlimited tethering for £36 a month with an iphone 4s 16gb costing me £60.

The new deal announced today doesn't include 0800 numbers but does include tethering! I just hope ppl don't hammer the network to oblivion.

Unlimited data on Orange? Thats not been like that for a while. I wish they'd offer this sim only.

Guys, just remember when you talk about unlimited data that networks used to call things "unlimited" when they have a fair use policy which contradicted the unlimited. They can no longer do this, that's why the only people that are allowed to do unlimited are the really unlimited ones.

Giffgaff will have to stop calling their package unlimited by April otherwise the ASA will take action, as there are further new rules coming into force regarding the term unlimited from April.

Any package that says it's unlimited, but has a FUP or cap will be deemed untruthful and misleading advertising and the company will be in breach of ASA regulations.

By the way the ASA also covers claims made on websites now as well, not just print, TV and radio.

Yes, my understanding is that from April the ASA is finally telling operators they must adhere to the dictionary definition of unlimited.

3,000 is NOT unlimited therefore they will have to sell the tariff as 3,000 texts, not unlimited texts. Anything other than that is misleading and untruthful.

unlimited
Adjective:
Not limited or restricted in terms of number, quantity, or extent
