Whilst sitting reading this thread my Elli has been sitting howling at the back door to be let out, door opened cat out, door shut came sat back down. Howling and continual scratching at door. Yep an anxious Elli wanting back in. Ate a few biscuits then back to back door only for the same performance to be repeated again. He went for a third time but was told "No". He is away upstairs, prob to my bed. He likes the idea of going out but the scarey sparrows, pigeons and seagulls are too much for him. Any wee noise and he instantly panics and desperately tries to get back in to safety. Although being inside isn't necessarily safer either. I too had a cat with a broken leg and another with a tin of paint. Both complete accidents.
My last Cat Skye only brought me a present once, a butterfly. She was so proud. A few minutes later she brought me a second one. Again so proud. Thankfully I took a photo of her gift to me. It was the first and last time she ever brought me a present. Like I said being indoors isn't necessarily safe either........... |

I remember you said that your cat died in a house fire? That must have been devastating.
![]() One of my rescue cats, Millie, still gets a bit spooked by sudden noises, inside and outside the house but she has a cat flap, magnetically operated, that lets her back inside to safety and security. She just seems predisposed to being nervous because I don't believe she's ever been ill treated but her nerves may be a consequence of her early experience of being lost, as a kitten, on a busy street. My other cats have a very relaxed approach to life. I think the cat flap is a magnificent invention, it transformed my Tabitha's life when she was little and I worked long 13-14 hour shifts. However, I know it's not possible for all homes to be fitted with one and I know some people like to have more control over their cats' outdoor excursions. |

It was Marella thanks. I just wanted to get the point out to others that it just isn't necessarily safer to keep your cats in. x
