Will some of the people he does it on be stooges as well? Like that tan line girl?
That was a really good trick.

Have no idea how he did that.

And actually, I dont want to know! I just enjoy it all.

He's actually quite a poor magician. He essentially uses mainly props you could buy in any joke shop. he alos uses a lot of stooges.

He also uses a lot of stooges.
The show is about 90% stooges and editing. That's not magic, it's cheating. Obviously, no magic's "real", but if you have to rely on camera tricks, editing and people who are in on it to pull off your stunts, then you're not really even a real magician.

Amazing.

I just cant think how it was done.

I'm so gullible though, I believe everything I see and tend not to want to know how its all done as it takes the mystery out of it all.

The one he did with the credit card was pretty good too. Where he changed the name on the card and signature on the back to his own.

All these new-wave magicians seem amazing when you first see them. Then once there's been an edition of "Magic's Greatest Secrets Revealed", the tricks then seem obvious and dull.
The large majority of tricks are 'obvious'(hurrah for hindsight) and dull when you know how they are done...but that is not the point...it is the effect they give that is important.

The simpler the method for doing certain magic trick/effect the better.

Card tricks/coin tricks and other sleight of hand is where major practise and skill comes into it and even then when I have shown a mate how a certain trick that has wowed him was done he's a bit disappointed.

Others (e.g. Derren Brown's Lotttery trick) use camera tricks when, once again, the magician has lead you to think he doesn't use such techniques.
Yes, that one was a bit of a 'hmmmm' moment...the actual Lottery Prediction on the night was merely the thing to hang the next show about 'The Wisdom of Crowds' off.

I think Derren was focussed more on the explanation show and letting us witness how a group of people can have an amazing experience in thinking they have just predicted the lottery numbers that he allowed a camera trick to be used as the lottery numbers method.

He's used dual reality shots before which are OK but I don't think he uses camera tricks normally as the stuff he normally does doesn't need them.

I saw him do one on telly the other day where he was in a jewellers.
He pushed his hand through the glass display case, picked up a necklace (or whatever),and pulled it through the glass
What about THAT one then !

I was disappointed when I first read that, fair enough to have illusions and sleight of the hand but to have stooges defeats the point of magic which is supposed to be errrr magical!

Its a variation of a very very old trick, I remember having a really lame version of it in my Paul Daniels Magic Set about 30 years ago.

BUT, its a good trick if its done well, and if you enjoy it then nobody should spoil it for you by telling you how its done. My favourite thing about magicians is trying to work out how they did it....it's like a puzzle.

I'll give you a clue though. The answer has been given earlier in this thread, its up to you whether to go looking for it and spoil the magic.

seriously, how does he do the things he does?
he literrally appears able to read peoples minds.
and i have just seen him on tv showing a 'trick' to natalie umbrelia. he made all the fake butterflies on the wall come to life and fly around the room.

is anyone clever enough to work out how he does this stuff?
There'll be camera tricks and everything involved. I'd also say that the passers by will be in on the trick as well. It's amazing what can be done with camera tricks and slyness. David Blaine was the same as well.

Ugh! David Blaine....what an 'orrible man. In my ideal world, when he did the glass box thing in London, when it was time for him to come out his face would drop with horror as he sees all his stooges and the British public were just standing under the box with evil grins. He then realises he is truly stuck. The camera pans out to the theme tune of Tales Of The Unexpected.....

........or is that just my fantasy?

Some of his tricks are very good.

If you analyse them on youtube you can see how he does some of them.

I do think it's funny how some people act as if he really can do these things. If he could walk through glass, then he'd walk through glass, he wouldn't need Rio Ferdinand holding up a coat to obscure him doing it!

But some of us just like to sit back and watch and enjoy what he does.

We're not so cynical about it all and just like to be entertained.

I dont want to know how he does it. I just enjoy watching it.

All the editing and stooges basically makes it scripted fiction rather than a magic show. You can fly the Starship Enterprise to Vulcan with editing and actors, what's impressive is what you can do without needing help from technology or people who are in on it.

I've often thought that the Magic Circle should take a stand against these things and throw out any magician caught using 1) camera tricks, 2) editing, or 3) stooges. I don't mean they should do this retrospectively (otherwise they'd lose half their members!) but a cut-off date should be set. This way the MC would be seen to be promoting the industry to move forward and be more inventive. As the poster above says, you can do anything using camera tricks. (And it's not even the magician that does them, it's the technical guys!)

If he does the trick with the 5 loaves and 3 fishes, then it's the second coming!
