Which is pretty much true for every routine performed by every skater..... not just by T&D

T&D moves are simple and dated, Ice dancing has moved on , they haven't. That was my point !!

I agree with you, but there is no way anyone T&D's ages could do what today's young competitive skaters do. Shouldn't think badly of them for that, though, it is no different from athletes of all descriptions.

So what if they are simple and dated - they still look good!

T&D don't need to keep up with today's ice dancers - they were the top of the tree for their heyday and as they are long retired from competition, they have no need to do what today's ice dancers do!

But if they wanted to - I'm pretty sure they could as ice dancing isn't as physical as pairs/ solo skating is. We have seen them demonstrating the moves (including pairs lifts) they are asking the celebs to do so they are both perfectly capable of doing those sort of routines if they want to - they clearly don't!

Even in today's skating routines - the skaters - particularly in the short/ compulsory programmes have to perform a set of the same moves eg spin/ jump combo/ single complex jump/ step sequence etc - and all the skaters have to do them but in any order they like ....

Either way - they are still a pleasure to watch as they do the opening routines on DOI and I for one could watch them for hours!

^^^ this. I love T&D too and for my money nobody ever bettered their original Bolero triumph.

The thing is a lot of the moves they do are theirs, as in they invented them. They were novel and innovative at the time and are what they are known for. I think people expect to see the T & D that they remember. Chris for certain could come up with more modern choreo (hasn't he helped some of the more recent skaters with theirs?) but they came from a time when artistry was more important than speed. Which, and I know I'm not alone in thinking this, makes ice dancing less interesting for me to watch in general now. They never had to wind up speed , they went from one move into the next and then into the next, you know.... like dancing. Plus, the tiny rink doesn't really allow for much in way of preparation for those rapid sequences.

I completely agree with you. As ever, T&D's routine was a highlight for me last night. I was a few minutes late tuning in and worried I might have missed it, so relieved when it was scheduled for a fairly random point of the show.

The rubbish shot selection did spoil it somewhat, as it does all of the routines this year; celeb and pro.
