Arrow - Season 1 - US Pace *No Spoilers*

Stephen Amell has been cast as Oliver Queen. Not seen much of him, so not sure if it's a good thing or not. I liked Justin Hartley's version, but it's probably better that the show isn't tied to Smallville in any way. Very interested to see how this plays out.

Ah, cool. Hopefully this show will be a cross between Chris Nolan's Batman (story-wise, not in tone) and classic Robin Hood. A gritty, crime action/drama with a swashbuckling, superheroic tinge.

Which is why it's better that it's not related to Smallville. Green Arrow doesn't have any powers to develop, so when the show starts it will be him returning from the island and ready to start his vigilante career. No need for all the 'teen years' crap, and certainly no 6 seasons of FotW episodes Dinah Lance will also be a regular.

I think it's too soon after Smallville to be honest. I know they're entirely different shows but people will be constantly comparing Amell wtih Hartley.

There's no chance of a Batman television series while there movie series; this is the reason why Bruce Wayne never visited Smallville and why WB attempted a series of Birds of Prey IIRC.

I don't hold out much hope for this given how Smallville turned out after starting with promise and having the odd very good episode. Isn't think going to be on the same network?

Yes, but a new guy has taken over at the CW and seems to be trying to change the type of programming they put out. Less teen/girly shit, more drama. This Oliver Queen will already be a (adult) adult, so no need for the teen angst crap.

I read somewhere that the show is going to be less comic-booky (I think that was the exact 'word') than Smallville, and that GA will be more of a 'Jason Bourne' type. That's good/bad news IMO.

That's what I'm worried about. Smallville felt like it had milked that universe/mythos dry by the end. I wonder how they'll approach this and not get unfavourable comparisons.

Deadline reports that Susanna Thompson - previously seen in NCIS and Dragonfly - has landed one of the female leads on the CW pilot Arrow, based on the DC Comics character Green Arrow/Oliver Queen. Thompson will play the character's mother, Moira Queen. The actress joins Stephen Amell (Green Arrow) and David Ramsey (John Diggle) in the pilot, which is directed by Smallville's David Nutter, and it's written/executive produced by Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim.

Has Oliver Queen's mum always been called Moira? I remember that being Chloe's Mum's name in Smallville.

Willa Holland has been cast as the annoying brat sister, nicknamed Speedy by Oliver.

I like her, but annoying brat sisters are always too annoying and bratty for my liking.

Yep. Just have to hope she doesn't get released at some point and replaced by Genevieve Cortese

As the cast for CW's modern take on DC comics character Green Arrow grows, the latest addition is stage actor Colin Donnell. Donnell will play Tommy Merlyn, Oliver’s best friend, a playboy “trustafarian” who assumes the good times will roll again now that Oliver has returned…only to learn Oliver is a changed man.

Colin Salmon will play Walter Steele, a former business associate of the late Robert Queen and the No. 2 executive at Queen Consolidated. He married Moira Queen following her husband's death at sea and the disappearance of her son, Oliver.
