I have a Samsung 42" plasma TV and use a Humax 9300T freeview recorder with it .At certain times of the day Channel 5 and ITV 1 breaks up badly/freezes to the point the Humax shows an on screen message "no or bad signal" as the signal is breaking up the tv makes clicking and squeaking noises , whats annoying is this will seeem to cure itself (sometimes I wiggle the ariel lead) so is my Humax on the blink ? or is their some electronic activity i.e pirate radio thats causing the problem .I live in a small block of 10 apartments in North London and believe I'm served by Crystal Palace transmitter . Checking the Humax signal it shows 100% on everything but keeps jumping from 100% down to 40% when the interference starts .Help please as ironically it will happen in the middle of my favourite programme. Thanks all

to rule out if the humax box is faulty.... connect the aerial directly to the TV and tune it that way... see if interference still occurs.
(if your tv doesnt have a digital tuner... borrow a freeview box off someone maybe)

try a new fly lead from the aerial point to your input.

does the interference happen at the same time each day? eg, some people have had problems when their central heating kicks in, or other electrical devices.

ask your neighbours / other people in the block if they have had any problems with their freeview.

Solved the problem with picture breaking up on freeview ..I pulled the the tv and all the boxes bluerays etc away from the wall (a heavy job on your own) so I could get to the socket on the wall and removed the panel and as soon as I did that the copper strand on the panel snapped so I think that all the months of wiggling the wire must have work hardened the cable so that it was on the verge of snapping .Also on closer inspection I found out that when my flat was being built the tv cable fitters failed to use the little cable clamp on the panel (as this was just laid in the wall box with the screws loose) so the wire and the socket were always loose .I stripped cable back and reinserted and tightened everything up making sure that the cable clamp was also use ...now have a perfect picture showing 100% signal strength .I the checked my bedroom tv socket and that was also not wired correctly with the wire clamp just left on the wallbox .Bloody cowboys ....glad I cracked it .and thans for your help .
