Is there any way I can connect speakers to my TV so I can have sky through the speakers. I tried connecting through my bluray surround system but no joy. My TV is a Toshiba 37 LCD Regza about 3 years old.

You cannot connect speakers directly to the TV but need to use an amplifier. Your Blu-ray sound system could be used for this if it had the appropriate inputs to connect an external source. But most of these all in one systems do not. What make and model of Blu-ray system is it?

The bluray player is a panasonic, but only has a optical in lead on the back.

Can you please specify the exact model of the TV and the Panasonic system. Different models in the same range can often have different socketry on them so it's hard to give advice if we don't know exactly what kit you have.

Though if the Panasonic only has optical digital you will need a digital output on the TV to use it. It doesn't matter if the TV has a digital out on phono as it is possible to convert that to optical with an external box.

But if you tell us the exact models of TV and surround system it would help.

The model number of the tv is AV50505D and the bluray player is model no SC-BTT362.

Not sure the TV model number is totally correct, doesn't seem to be recognised by Toshiba. But searching on a partial version of that model doesn't reveal any useful specs, so far.

The Panasonic system does have analogue Aux In according to the specs. That means that if there is a way to get audio out of the TV then you should be able to connect it to the Panasonic.

If the TV has either a headphone socket or a pair of audio out phonos then connecting up would be simple. There is also the possibility of using a SCART socket to get an audio signal out of the TV. Using either a SCART adapter plug or SCART to phono plug lead.

Ok thanks chrisjr. The model number for the TV I took of the back of it. I know the TV has yellow and white connections on the back so I will have a look at the bluray player.

Hello 1 - my first post - yay!

I'm also looking for some speakers for my TV. I have a budget of up to £400. Trouble is I don't want any surround system with wires as the floor is wood so cant be hidden. Can anyone of you guys recommend a decent system - there's a lot of sound bar things out there but I was told they weren't as good as separate speakers???

Look up the Onkyo HTX22 system on the Richersounds website. It comes in well under your budget and is basically a full AV system stuffed into the back of a subwoofer.

As standard it is a 2.1 system but can be upgraded to 5.1 if and when finances and/or flooring permit . Though I have seen some posters on DS saying they have bought the extra speakers but just use the centre one to enhance the vocals.

But it is a very decent system even in 2.1 mode.

Thanks I never knew about that system - almost perfect as it has a internal amp ! which was my next question. Is the centre speaker available separately or do the rears come too ? Will give it a audition- quite cheap however so how much more refinement could get up to £400?? .

The centre is only available with the surround speakers. You may not find too many systems similar to the Onkyo. It is more common to find systems with the amplifier built into a disk player. I know of plenty of systems that are much cheaper than the Onkyo but not that familiar with any much more expensive.

An alternative would be a stereo amp and speaker package. You would probably get a better system sound wise but may lose some of the flexibility of something like the Onkyo. It all depends on how you want to use it.

The Onkyo is basically a fully featured AV system with plenty of options for hooking up external kit, eg Sky box, Freesat box, Freeview box, games console etc etc. as with stand alone AV amps you can plug all the extra kit into it and have a single connection to the telly. The Onkyo acts as the control centre of the system.

With a stereo HiFi system you could need separate audio connections to the amp and video to the TV. Depends on whether the TV can feed audio from any connected device out to the amp. So you could have more wires round the back of the system. Depends how important you think all that is and how important ultimate sound quality is.

The Onkyo will sound pretty good and may be more convenient as a home entertainment system. A stereo HiFi system will sond better but may be less convenient. Though if all you want to connect up is the telly then that may not be such an issue.

Managed to listen to the Onkyo yesterday. Sounds pretty good. I have been looking at possible centre speakers on ebay and the full works just isn't a option.

Also, I am looking into 2 bookshelf + sub + amp set-up too as well as a Yamaha sound bar.
