My HiFi keeps 'jumping', really annoying!!
when i play CDs on my stereo, the music keeps 'jumping' and 'skipping'. it doesnt matter what volume its on, the problem will still persist.
its a panasonic 5 cd deck. its about 7 years old, but i have hardly ever used the thing! its never plugged in, so it just be working like new. i have tried moving the speakers about all over the place but the problem continues. what could be the issue? |

Dirty or cream crackered laser. Nothing to do with the speaker position or the volume.
If it's not been used but just shoved in the back of a cupboard or whatever then it could easily have built up a layer of crud on the laser. Best way to clean it is to open the thing up and use a cotton bud dipped in something like Isopropyl alcohol (get it from places like Maplin) and very gently rub over the laser. Failing that a lens cleaning disk might do the job. |

I had a old HiFi that did the same thing - dirty laser was the culprit and usually is.
Sometimes it wouldn't even see a disk. Like Chris said - use a cleaning disk - or if you are brave open it up and clean the lazer. |
