No Plus as far as I know.....It's good enough for my needs and presents no problems up or down although most of my needs are down. It's faster than one or two of my friends home BB a lot of the time...

I get 3G where according to O2 maps I shouldn't and visa versa, very strange. That said I don't use mobile internet that much I think last month I used about 120mb.

What they've said is if the data is just for your phone it is unlimited, if you're downloading stuff then transferring it to a PC or laptop then it isn't normal phone use, i don't think anyone has been kicked off the network for streaming TV or radio TBH, however if you're downing films and torrents you deserve to get kicked

No johnathome they have openly said they will kick off the highest users because investigating tethering is costing too much time and money.

Then they need to make it clear that tethering isn't allowed, and enforce it properly (and by doing so, they can cut people off quicker and easier).

They have made it clear, it's in the T&C and all over the forum, the only way they allow tethering is if you buy a data only bag, you can use that how you like..

it is annoying that they wont say how much data gets you a ban, but then if they did that would be the FUP, but all in all they are quite laid back and want people to be responsible and not abuse the service, i'd still be interested how people can use 20Gb of data in 2 weeks if it's just for their phone, it isn't meant to be a substitute for home broadband

They should just say it's 10GB, or 5 GB or whatever they want people to have. They say it's unlimited, but then if you use too much you get cut off, so it's not unlimited.

In April even tougher ASA rules come into force on this subject so they absolutely will have to stop calling it unlimited by April.

It's no good hiding things away in the T&C's, Ofcom and others have had enough of these operators claiming unlimited and then not giving unlimited or kicking people off.

You can't 'abuse' the network if it's unlimited. You could buy a Samsung s2 and sign up to GG on their 'unlimited' plan, watch loads of youtube, download lots of apps and games, stream video and audio, download podcasts or use it to connect to dropbox and watch a movie, sync all your data, download some custom roms etc and then get cut off by GG for using too much.

If people are tethering they should do what AT&T do in the US and have good anti-tethering detection and disconnect people for tethering, not just for high usage on an unlimited plan.

As 99% of customers are completely unaffected, they shouldn't say anything more than they already say IMO. I used 14.2GB last month (admitted an exceptional month for me) with no worries and absolutely no need for data checkers or any other nonsense.
So at the end of the day, as far as I and the vast majority of others it is unlimited. If they set a cap of, say the 10GB you mention, I would have hit that cap and been stuffed. As it is and with no viable alternative, I am very happy thank you...

I bet you'd soon change your tune if you got cut off for using 14GB though which could very well happen if you have another month like that. If people have had 1 warning then they lose everything by the way, they are completely disconnected.

If that's true, then fine. Otherwise they clearly have limits and should stop advertising that they don't. It took long enough to get the main networks to stop doing this (to this day, I still can't understand how they were allowed for years to write 'unlimited' when there were limits) so I can't see how giffgaff thinks it is any different, simply because it is a virtual operator.

For the record, I do think that there should be some limit in place. However, the solution is to impose a clear and official limit, not just try and claim something to be totally unlimited and then impose restrictions. It's also rather bad to single out the '1%' and make them out to be evil, and have the other 99% turn against them - for doing nothing wrong according to the advertised service.

As said above, what happens when the restrictions get tightened a bit further and they target the next 1% and the next. Presumably a lot of users will keep supporting the capping until it reaches them.

What call 100 is doing in my opinion. 14 gigs in 1 month is a hell of a lot of mobile data, you must be quite near that 1% (but of course nobody knows because users are asked to guess what the acceptable limit is on their unlimited account).

I'd laugh my socks off if next month he uses 15 gigs and gets banned, then we'll see what he says about the fairness of calling a plan unlimited and then disconnecting high users.

Taking that month out of the equation and my average usage is about the 1.5GB mark. Mainly working with documents in Dropbox, Skydrive etc.
The point is that the last thing I want is to worry about occasional spikes.
I don't believe the Mobile companies that state that the heavy users are affecting everyone else...I just believe it's all about cash and nothing else. Since they started giving a gazillion minutes free etc, they have seen another cash cow.

More and more people are making less and less calls, so it's easy to now offer ridiculous bundles of minutes. Same for texting, as we see texts being sent in (gradual) decline as people now send emails, IMs and post on Twitter etc.

So, data is where it's at. That's why you have such ridiculous data roaming charges - and reduced bundles on many new tariffs, with high run-on rates too.

Ultimately, the EU will be going beyond gradual price reductions every July and seeking to make a UK tariff apply throughout the EU (and vice versa). If that happens, the networks will suddenly lose a fortune and will have to seek new ways to make money. I am not sure what they'll do, but I am sure they'll work damn hard to keep the average revenue per user at a similar level to what it is now.
