The Hollies Appreciation Thread
I can't believe there hasn't been an appreciation thread on these talented guys, second only to the Beatles in terms of chart entries in the 1960s.
Their hits are timeless. 'Just One Look', 'I'm Alive', 'I Can't Let Go' and of course their classics 'The Air That I Breathe' and 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother'. Not to mention the gorgeous Clarke/Hicks/Nash harmonies. Even though they don't chart so much these days, their concerts are still sell outs and they have a large fanbase. I grew up with their music (Tony Hicks was one of my first crushes!) and still love it. |

The original band was Alan Clarke, Graham Nash, Tony Hicks, Eric Haydock and Bobby Elliot. When Graham Nash left he was replaced by Tony Sylvester. I know there were changes after that but I kind of lost track.

Bernie Calvert replaced Eric Haydock, Manderley. Terry Sylvester is the actual name of Graham's replacement but fair enough.
Mikael Rickfors sang lead for year when Allan left briefly (1972/73). When Allan Clarke retired in 2000, ex Move vocalist Carl Wayne replaced him and remained until his death in 2004 when he was replaced by ex Cliff Richard backing vocalist Peter Howarth. Current lineup is Peter Howarth, Tony Hicks, Bobby Elliott, Steve Lauri and ex Mud bassist Ray Stiles. Brian Chatton has also been a member and Donald Rathbone was the original drummer. A bloody good band, no matter the lineup! |

I think that he wanted to try something more adventurous but it didn't work out. I may be wrong again.

Graham left in December 1968 as he did indeed want to do something more adventurous.
He now lives in America and has dual British/American citizenship. |

I can't believe it, he looks so young! And Allan isn't far behind, he's 70 in April.
Great to see you looking so sexy, Martin! |
