I'm due an upgrade in the next few weeks and I'm stuck as to which one of these to choose. My current phone's a Wildfire S so I'm used to Sense ( and I like it) but the low internal memory issue with this handset drives me mad! I also had a look at the Nokia Lumia 800 but the main apps I use aren't available for it just now. I use it for music and the camera, along with all the usual stuff, texting, phone calls and internet. It would be a straight win for the xe if it wasn't for the smallish internal memory. Anyone with the xe have problems with that?

The HTC Sensation XE looks great but one thing which would put me off is no Expandable Memory which the S2 has.

It does have an expandable memory, at least it says there's a 16gb card in the box.

Ignore me I might be getting mixed up with the XL.
I think I would still go with the S2.

I've been an HTC fan since the release of the Desire and I recently tried to get in to the Samsung phones buy purchasing a Galaxy Nexus. I sold it a few days later and went back to HTC, buying a Sensation.

For me Samsung looks good on paper but it felt horrible in my hand. Too plasticy after HTC's nice premium well built feel.

Samsung to be fair are decent handsets, but if you like HTC handsets then you may find them a little cheap feeling. And if you like Sense I doubt you'll be as keen on the Samsung UI.

However - try both handsets in a store, see which YOU prefer.

I've copied the main differences from GSM Arena.

Samsung Galaxy S2

Weight: 116g
Display: Super AMOLED Plus
Internal: 16GB
2nd camera: 2mpx
CPU: dual-core 1.2GHz
Battery Standby: 710 hours
Talk Time: 18 hours, 20 minutes

HTC Sensation XE

Weight: 151g
Display: S-LCD
Internal: 4GB (1GB user available)
2nd camera: VGA
CPU: dual-core 1.5GHz
Battery Standby: 310 hours
Talk time: 8 hours, 16 minutes

I think it's worth noting that the Sensation XE has only 1GB of internal storage, which isn't that much better than the Wildfire S's 418 MB.

I think they've delayed the S3 until June - and it probably won't be cheap.

Such specs don't take in to consideration the user experience or personal preference however. What may look better on paper doesn't always materialise as such as I found out recently when I moved from HTC to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus - it looked great on paper but compared to my Sensation it was pants sadly

As for the internal storage, you can obviously install apps on the SD card too, so you're not simply tied to the internal storage limits in terms of apps.

As stated before, try both and see which you prefer.

I've had a galaxy s2 to play with and I've gone for the Sensation XE.

Just didn't like the user interface.

Better processor on the XE and the 1GB of storage is fine. Most apps I have moved onto the SD card anyway.

I've put all the same apps on that I used when I had a Desire and have only used 1/10th of the memory. So loads of room for more apps.

Thanks for all the replies folks. I'm going in to town today so I'll have a play with both of them and see which one I prefer. My only worry with the xe was the internal storage but it seems that's not too much of a problem after all.

Well....after all that I went into the3 store and tried both handsets. Didn't like the Samsung UI and I felt they were both a bit big for my delicate little hands lol! I'm typing this on my shiny new lumia 800! Liking it so far..dead easy to use and with the exception of sky the main apps I use are all available. Bit of a change from android but all good so far. =)

I tried out that phone just the other day. Its very nice actually, I was impressed- almost to the point I was thinking of getting rid of my 1 month old S2.

The S2 isn't all gold plated as a lot make out. It has its problems (quite a lot). The latest I found was Image retention and screen burn of the OLED display. But it is a great phone.

then you dont have a oled

Download this grey Image to your phone...

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/823/67826988.jpg/

Open it full screen in Gallery and wait for info to disappear.

Press the HOME button to return to the Home screen. (gallery should run in background)

Keep your home screen lit for 10-15 or more seconds.

Return to Gallery and the grey image should come up

You will then see the "retention" of the icons along the bottom. The higher the brightness the worse it gets.

Late8 - you've really been burned by the dodgy SGS2 you've got.

Just tried your little experiment and absolutely no issues whatsoever. Suggest you trade down for either an Iphone or worse still, the Lumia .

Well that's funny because experts at xddevelopers forums do this. OLED has residual image retention. so you are either blind, have bottom level screen brightness or telling lies. This is my second phone also and others have this reported IR after this test. btw you must wait 30seconds or so on home screen.

Also see...

And search YouTube and Google fir OLED screen burn and image retention.

i love my sensation XE!
the screen is much better on the samsung galaxy S2, but i got over that, as the phone feels like a plastic toy.
plus everyone seems to have the galaxy these days, i like to stand out
plus the XE is great for music because the beats 'audio', and i am always dropping my phone, and the XE seems to survive fine, though i could imagine dropping the galaxy would make it scatter into a million pieces

Must admit the HTC has great sound quality. the S2 is pretty mediocre in the sound department. Apparently the S has better sound than the 2. Something to do with the new DAC and headphones amp.

Well funny that...I tried the same experiment with none of the symptoms you are trying to foist on us.
For you to openly accuse someone of lying is disgusting..
It's time you accepted the fact that whatever the problem is it is not universal and the cases where it has happened are from people who have the brightness turned up full and the screen lit for hours at a time with the same image.
