I hope someone can help me out here.

I have a dvd/vhs combi unit (samsung dvd-v6700S) that plays NTSC tapes & the dvd player is multi region.I have this connected up to my LG RHT497h HDD dvd recorder which is multi region also.

If i connect the combi unit straight to the tv i get a picture no problem. However as soon as i link it through the dvd recorder the picture is split into two with a thick black line going across near the bottom of the screen.

My dvd recorder will let me record the region 1 dvd on to the dvd recorders hard drive which i'm wanting to do but it's just an issue with the picture that i have.

Thanks

Sounds like the copy protection is kicking in although it would usually stop the hard drive recording full stop.
Assuming its not the copy protection then you should check the output settings of the dvd playback.
Most offer a choice of how to output NTSC.
Usually the choice is NTSC or PAL 60 (usually shown simply as PAL).

The majority of recording devices require a pure NTSC signal rather than the halfway house of PAL60 that will display on your tv without a hitch
This is why most dvd recorders won't be able to record NTSC VHS output from a UK VCR.

I would also think that the recording device needs a setting changed to get it to record NTSC properly .

Even Panasonic and Pioneer recorders need the TV System settings changed from PAL to NTSC or 625 to 525.

There are also dvd recorders out there that will not record NTSC at all even though they will play it.

Check the manual
In all cases the region coding is irrelevant to the content being recordable
