Calling while abroad but to local numbers

I think I know the answer already but I can't find it in writing...

I'm on O2 pay monthly, and I am in Italy at the moment. Do I have to use the country code when calling a phone here and is it still charged to me as if I am calling from the UK?

You will not need to dial a country code for numbers belonging to the country you are in.

Currently EU caps mean that you will pay the same to call the country you are in as you do to call the uk - circa 36p per min.
