Phone losing charge
JeffG1

My phone (HTC Wildfire) has suddenly started losing all its charge after a few hours (e.g. overnight), when for the amount I use it, it used to last a couple of days, even with WiFi and Bluetooth turned on permanently. Is it normal for the battery to die suddenly like this? I have had the phone from new exactly a year this month.

Edit: I have just looked on Amazon and genuine HTC replacement batteries are £12. Mobyspares "extended life" is £5.49. Is there anything to be gained by buying the genuine article?

Do you have any location services based apps running in the background? Try power cycling the phone to kill off any stray programmes which may be running when they shouldn't be.

A battery should generally last a bit better than a year.

I have nothing running on my phone that wasn't running before. The only recent app I installed was CNN News, and it was after that that things went downhill. Probably a coincidence, as when I removed it (bit pointless when I have the BBC News app, unless you want loads of US news) the phone still behaved the same way.

How old is it? Sooner or later batteries stop holding their charge and need replacing.

try:menu/settings/about phone/battery/battery use and see what is using the battery up.

As I said in the original post, it's one year old this month.
