basically, the boy is on Harringtons at the moment (poos better with that than with wagg)

through connections with the Nestle factory here however, we can get Beta at a very good price.

now he was on Beta when we first got him, and both dogs liked it at that point, can't remember why the change was made (probably mums interfering partner) but he was put onto burns, which made him hyperactive.
then some other brands were tried and we eventually setted at wagg worker for him, and bakers for the older dog who wouldn't touch anything else. somewhere further along the line it got swapped from worker to wagg original.

fast forward to when the wagg & bakers had been used up, Harringtons was on offer, which went down a treat, his poos were firmer and all so we stuck to that.

but the price on this beta and the fact he was really well on it before are making a switch tempting...

any thoughts?

I know many posters will exclaim they wouldn't feed their hounds either of these, but we don;t really want to consider any other brands at this moment in time...

I would stick to Harringtons out of the two of those. Harrington's contains meat meal which is far better than the meat and animal derivatives that Beta contains. Take for example the Beta Lamb and Rice; Meat and animal derivatives 14% (10% meat, 4% lamb). It doesn't state what meat the 10% is, at least Harringtons name their meat. Plus your dog is producing good firm poos and likes it.

i wouldn't say he likes it, likes it - he had a better appetite for the wagg/bakers.
with harringtons it's more like "well it's here, so i'll eat it" sort of thing, a slight lack of enthusiasm
but he does throw his bowl around to ask for his meals so it can't be the worst tasting thing in the world

thanks for the input
i think it's something like £7 difference between a 15kg bag of harringtons & the cheaper Beta
was just an attractive saving, not switching his food again is by far the easier option and £7 isn't much in the grand scheme of things when feeding one dog anyway now i've thought further about it

No problem, it's hard to know what to feed sometimes! I had my dog on Applaws dry which is 75% meat and Nature Diet wet and his poops were far too sloppy and his farts were awful So the best quality sometimes isn't the best for the individual dog!

ooh blimey, bet that was fun!

it is very true that what works for one dog isn't true of another
i wanted to swap him from wagg for a long time as his plops were really soft every time he went, almost a mousse like consistency, and so orange! picking it up was a nightmare, and it stunk to high heaven.
my friend has a GSD on it and her poops are perfect (if a little orange!)
seems wagg add a mineral to their foods to colour them, seems to be the reason for the orange colouration

we'll be sticking with turkey harringtons for him though, it's been decided

since i've made this thread though, he's started sneaking things
worst thing being a third of a bar of galaxy my mum had left on a table in the living room - he's NEVER stolen anything like that before and eaten it, which is a little worrying...

Lol they really like to keep you on your toes The temptation must have been too much for him! My boy has never touched plugs or wires before but I got up one morning and he had chewed the plug right off my fairy lights the eejit! And he has never touched a plug or wire since, they are so strange sometimes, you just can't be on to them.
What age is he, is he going through the teenage phase?

haha, oh dear!
the worst thing he destroyed was the iron cord when he was a puppy, managed to get himself locked in the pantry & decided he'd entertain himself with that

he was 5 at christmas so well past the teenage phase
neutered in the previous may, which did make him become more interested in food, but up until now, he's not stolen anything
just going to have to keep an eye on him i think

My dog really liked Harringtons, it helped with her er.. flatulence issues! Only thing was that the bags were too big and by the time we got halfway down one, it was mouldy. If Harringtons is the highest quality then best to stick to it, if you can afford it - the way I see it is, the better quality the food, the less chance of trips to the vets in the long run.
