Android tablet saving downloaded files to SMB / CIFS??
Thine Wonk

I really hoping somebody can help me here.

I'm interested in buying an Asus Transformer Prime and I want to use it some evenings instead of my Windows laptop.

I have a torrent box, which is a PC in a cupboard that downloads my torrents, what I want to do is browse a torrent site, choose what I want to download on the tablet and then download the torrent file and save it to a shared drive on the 'torrent box'.

Utorrent watches a directory for new torrent files and automatically starts downloading, currently from my laptop I just drop the torrent file on the share and it's done, then I can play files too from the other share (torrent download share).

Does anyone have any ideas? I thought about dropbox would work, but testing it out on my HTC Desire HD you don't seem to be able to download files in the browser and save them to your dropbox.

If it is not capable of Windows SMB integaration then I'm kind of thinking of not bothering, as with only 16 / 32GB you need to be able to play files back from the SMB share too.

I've seen apps like SE file manager (I think that is what it was called) but when you download a torrent Android doesn't recognise what it is and doesn't give you the option to save it to a network drive.

I really don't want to use the torrent link and paste it into utorrent remote etc as a torrent site I use a lot doesn't display the link, it's just a download button with no link even in properties.

HELP! please, I'll be so grateful

UTorrent Remote allows you to torrents, or links to torrent files direct to UTorrent direct from your android device.

Yeah as I said in the post, I know it's rather long...I really don't want to use the torrent link and paste it into utorrent remote etc as a torrent site I use a lot doesn't display the link, it's just a download button with no link even in properties.

I tried utorrent remote on my HTC Desire HD and downloaded a torrent, it said adding, but never added it. Googling it seemed to suggest you had to copy and paste links, but as I say some torrent sites I use don't give you the link.

Sorry misread your post, that's what happens when you skim through a post

As far as sending the torrent from my tablet/phone. I have found that if it does not add the torrent, logging out and logging back in allows the torrent to be sent to uTorrent.

You would have thought that moving files around from the tablet to Windows would have been better. I'm a bit disappointed to be honest and this is putting me off getting it, because I know if it doesn't work properly I'll have to boot my laptop up, which means there's no point in having it.

Such a simple thing, downloading a little torrent file from a web page and moving it off the tablet and on to a network share, but google / android don't seem to have thought much about moving files on and off the device in a LAN.

you can mount a SMB share and access it using something like astro file manager.

You can also setup a FTP server (or client) and transfer files that way.

Cant you just 'remote desktop' into the box and get the box to do it still. It seems a bit of a faff any other way.

also if you want to control from PC then I use this,

http://www.appbrain.com/app/wellftp-....wifitransport

and then any FTP client on the PC (I use filezilla)

You could also do this the other way round and install FTP server on the PC and use FTP client on your tablet.
