Hi all

The HDD in my current machine has just 'died' - I have loads of programmes on it that I wanted to keep but the damn thing is not responding to anything. Tried turning it on and off at the mains, unplugging it completely, leaving it switched on for a while etc etc but zilch

So, as I can't afford a new recorder BUT have several HDDs lying about, does anyone know how I go about formatting the HDD to go into the machine or a site that can help me with instructions?

Also, any ideas how I could recover the data off the old HDD?

many thanks!

SC

It's formatted from the machine, from the service menu - but it may require a special service remote control to do it.

If the HDD is duff, then you probably can't recover data off of it.

There is a Sony service remote available: http://signalsuk.co.uk/signals_shop/...&productId=313
You need to get instructions on how to use it. I found the service manual of my Sony HDD/DVD recorder on line. The instructions of what to do are very clear and you can even fit a larger HDD.

I found this site: http://www.avforums.com/forums/blu-r...-upgraded.html
It is very informative on how to change the HDD in a Sony recorder.
