Ok, 3 episodes in and my 'benefit of the doubt' is wavering.
I really wanted to like this show but I can't help feeling it would have been so much better without the constrains of the found footage device (and I'm usually a found footage fan). I'm finding the ff a distraction rather than enhancing the mood. Would have been so much better if just simply told straight. It's only 8 eps so will stick with it but can't help feeling a bit disappointed. Maybe I was spoiled by the unexpected brilliance of Homeland. |

Episode three would have worked better as a double episode... I feel they tried to fit too much into one episode and in the end I felt kind of confused regarding the solution to the blindness. I'll give this one more episode but I'm less than enthralled with it tbh

Self-sacrifice really does seem to save the day on this show

I can't believe how much of an epic failure this show is to be honest. I mean I didn't think it was gonna re-define television or anything, but I thought it would be significantly better considering the names that are behind this show. Mind you, I'm not a huge fan of Oren Peli nor Steven Spielberg, but I get reminded by a few of my friends how great they are on a daily basis. Right now, I'm not seeing that greatness.

I've been more than pleasantly surprised - I'm really enjoying the show. Occasionally it seems to be lacking a little, it tends to be obvious whats going to happen, but I'm finding it quite entertaining. Way better than Fallings Skies or Terra Nova - and probably a much smaller budget than either. |

The characters are not great either. The arrogant, smart-mouthed cameramen are just walking cliches, sorry. One of them is bad enough, but they made all the cameramen like that. Why? And the main character of Lincoln is basically Jack from Lost and Lena is Kate lol. Lincoln's mum named Tess is basically just quite obnoxious and annoying IMHO. The security expert guy (his name's Kurt I think) is the only character that interests me and that's because he has an ulterior agenda and was sent by some mysterious group to kill Emmet Cole before he reaches "The Source". Also, the episodes themselves are very similar to each other. While each episode presents a different kind of problem, the storytelling got quite predictable and formulaic by the 3rd episode. I've noticed a pattern has emerged... usually each episode begins with some new mystery, which in turn brings a new supernatural threat to threaten the lives of the Magus crew. The supernatural threat nearly kills the crew, but they somehow by fluke avoid death. One of the crew makes an arse of themselves and gets to told to "f*ck off" by somebody else lol. There's other stuff as well, but I'm too tired right now to think . And you're definitely right - it is far better than Falling Skies and Terra Nova (most for the part), but that doesn't make it great IMHO. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's a totally crap show or anything, I just thought it'd try to be a bit more intelligent and original considering the so called big names behind this show. But I'm glad you're enjoying it as am I . I'm just not engaged by it at all. It's the type of show you can pay attention 5 or10 mintues at a time while you do something else. I have no emotional investment in the story or the characters and that's the major problem I have with it.

The latest episode was a huge improvement!
However I would have liked to see more of the ghost crew set on fire because the sfx was quite good when the big guy was set alight! Next weeks episode looks to be a good one aswell! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dees-pu7MDA |

Is this worth watching?
I've watched the first half of the double length premiere a few weeks back but could not be be bothered watching the 2nd part at that time or since. Just clearing up some space on my Hard drive,Terra Nova Season 1 just went in the recycle Bin and thought I'd get some feedback on this before it followed suit. |

I'm still enjoying it and really hope for a 2nd season with a whole new story like American Horror Story is doing. Could be set in the mountains, in a hotel, a small town anything really? |

Unfortunately, it seems iTunes is the only way for UK viewers to watch The River. No UK channels have picked it up, but you never know as Channel 5 picked up Once Upon a Time pretty late. There are other ways you can watch it though... but I'm guessing you don't want to?

I watched all 8 in a couple of days after searching for a new show to watch, main plot was ok to watch - but hated the monster of the week filler episodes which didnt interest me at all..

Sorry for digging up a fairly old thread, but I'm going through my hard drive and this is on my list to watch now. I know it's been cancelled, but does it end on a cliffhanger/non-resolution of the main story?
I'm fine with a few unresolved teases for the next season if they'd got one but I've been disappointed in too many shows to start watching something that leaves the main story completely unresolved. |

Most of the story is tied up and it does not end on a clifhanger but is open ended leaving room for more stories. Its only 8 episodes so I'd watch it.
