He has had a lot of accidents and tonight after cutting himself it's starting to make me wonder how long till he ends up in an old peoples home.

What do you all think?

My thoughts exactly, a number of clumsy moments and such, the actor freddie jones, 84, can only go on so long, i reckon the storyline developing which will lead to his death, i dont know that, just what i think, cant imagine ashley doing his dads funeral though,

im glad someone else has mentioned it on here too!

I would have got rid of him and Sam Dingle years ago. No offence to the actors, but they are the two characters that ruin Emmerdale for me.

I'm sure I heard a while back that they were starting a slow burn storyline involving Sandy getting Alzheimers which would ultimately lead to his death?

We constantly see him forgetting things, and acting a bit dazed so I just figured I'd missed the episode where he was actually diagnosed

That was Gavin Blyth's plan. yes, I remember him also referring to it in an interview in June 2010, but it seems to have been forgotten by Stuart Blackburn.

Shame. Would of been a brilliant storyline.

Aw no
I never used to think much of Sandy (didn't dislike nor like) but recently I've absolutely loved him. Would be a shame if he left but it wouldn't at all surprise me if it was sooner rather than later.

I agree. Sandy and Sam Dingle were the two characters that spoilt Emmerdale for me and then along came the Spencer family and Sandy and Sam didn't seem quite as bad.

Sandy is ace, he is a gem. I find him hilarious and I hoppe he gets more screen time and is NOT killed off or sent to a home.

I think he's hilarious. I love the way he always gets drunk and pisses off Ashley!

I like Sandy. I do think the problems he had with his hands yesterday are down to the fact that he doesn't control his diabetes.

Sandy is hilarious. i must admit that afew months ago i wouldnt care if he left but now i see that he is great. it just shows that every character can be good when they are given a story/more screen time.

i wouldnt care if Ashley or Marlon left tho. maybe they could kill them both off for the 40th anniversary, it could be a good story for Lauel dealing with the deaths of 2 men she loves. we could also get Holly back on drugs and Laurel gets involed as she cant deal with things. thinking about it, killing Ashley and Marlon off in a big destaster could involve most of the village as both characters have bin in the show for years and know everyone.

I think with all his accidents and Ashley's over the top anger that doctors might suspect elderly abuse and that Sandy may/may not encourage this. It seems he's ad way too many accidents for someone not to call Age Concern.

Butch Dingle was always my favourite. I cannot believe they killed him off.

NOOO! Keep Sandy in it ! He's a lovable old rogue. There aren't enough elderly villagers in it as it is! He's a great comic character (replacing Shadrach).
We seem to have lost Betty again (for some reason) - there's only Pearl, Edna and Alan left!

How old is the actress who plays Betty now?

She's eighty-two

There is also rodney, he's sixty-two but the actor is seventy-three, that way, he's an elderly cast member, but not an elderly villager
