Staff on Fish Counters
Do any of the major supermarkets, have staff on their FISH counters, who can and are willing to gut, or fillet fish. I asked once in ASDA, but they said they did not do filleting

There is a sign behind the fish counter in our local Asda that says something along the lines of happy to fillet and prepare the fish for you. Although I have only seen a person behind the fish counter once or maybe twice all the times I have been in there. So there in lies the catch

Never asked in Tesco but as for the other two the ASDA has one section with fresh fish on it.
I have bought a whole fish before and asked for it to be filleted. The lady didn't argue but also did not seem over joyed to be asked. She did an ok job apart from leaving the belly fat on and a few rib bones. The Morrisons has a proper fish counter. Like a fishmonger. They always seem happy to trim and portion up fish. The only time I have asked for a fish to be filleted though I was turned down. Although this could have been because it was near to closing time and I think the staff member was just a regular member working on the counter and not a trained member. |

I've had fish prepared for me in Sainsbury's before. I guess it depends on how busy they are though, and how many people are behind the counter.

Morrisons should do yes as their staff are fully trained fishmongers but as said above you might get someone covering who isn't trained and then they wouldn't be able to do it.

I'd do it myself.
When you see the types they employ there you'd rather they have as little contact as possible with the food really..... unless you like random bits of acne in your kippers. |
