Just wondered what thoughts were on The Vaccines?

Really liked the album, nothing revolutionary in their sound i admit but some very catchy songs.

listened to some of their songs online, they sounded pretty good, but their was nothing which really made me want to buy the album...
really liked a lack of understanding...
i think persoanlly i'd prefer if they were a bit more experimental with their music though... like editors were with their third album...
though i suppose that could alienate their current fans!

I like their songs that get played on Radio 1 often.

Not enough to buy their albums or see them live but i do quite like their sound.

Catchy songs but nothing particularly original. I've heard they're good live though.

Rock music for bedwetters (as they say )
'60's (inspired) garage rock by numbers.Their sound is so amateurish. They sound so pissed of when they are playing. No passion to their music at all.
How can a band become popularish in 2011 after all the rock movements that have happened since the late '60's.
If you like this band you need to get a rock education.

PS This garage rock revival movement needs to put to bed now.

They are great live, the album is rapidly becoming the most played on my Ipod.

Interested to know what's on the curriculum of this "rock education"

For the record I really like The Vaccines and they've been great live the couple of times I've seen them. Nothing revolutionary but it's a good solid debut album.

I like them, but let's face it they're nothing special.

Under Your Thumb, Do You Wanna & Post Break-Up Sex are all good. But still, nothing you can't see in the upstairs venue of a pub in Brighton.

Like I said I thought the album was pretty good and thankfully they haven't burst big onto the scene just yet like say Kaiser Chiefs did then it all died down after the 2nd album. Room for improvement on the second attempt and then a chance to make a unique sound for themselves now they have a fan base that would like to hear it.

Ignore him/her. Just classic music snobbery.

Are you calling me a classic rock fan - I'm not that at all.Altough I do appreciate alot of it, but don't listen to alot of it now. There's always a standout track you can't help liking though.
Aren't the Vaccines based on mid '60's sound.Doesn't that make them Classic Rock (although of the garage rock variety - a retrospective term invented in mid to late '70's).The thing is the Vaccines are not even that good at it, as backed up in many of the comments above.

NME, Q, XFM radio, Radio 1, 6music etc.etc. THEIR LABEL PLUGGERS (Sony / Columbia) have heavily backed them.Despite all this support they still have only achieved moderate success - doesn't that tell you something.

They are a Garage rock revival band by numbers which was popular 5 years ago but is rapidly lost momentum over the last few years. The Major labels just haven't realised this. The 'saviours of rock' my arse.If these labels keep backing bands like this it will drive it further & further underground.PERHAPS THAT IS WHAT THEY ARE TRYING TO DO
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-punk_revival#Decline

They were only formed in 2010 well after this decline. Why have they had so much commercial backing ????? Even the Strokes & Arctic Monkeys have realised they had to move their sound on (with dubious success, perhaps).

I think that's being harsh. There aren't many bands who play pubs who are anywhere near as good as The Vaccines.

Think you should listen to some more pub rock bands - the pubs that can afford the music licence that is

Most people would admit they have a tired sound. No wonder people are getting fed up with pop-rock when the industry tries to push bands like this on us.

You didn't actually answer my question though. I like plenty of 60's and 70's stuff but it doesn't mean I can't appreciate this. Yes, they're doing nothing new but they're decent catchy tunes and it's a decent debut album in my book. Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes have moved their sounds on but they're both on their 4th albums, Angles wasn't great but pretty much everything Alex Turner does is spot on in my book. Who's to say The Vaccines won't progress on their next album?

I'd much rather a band like The Vaccines get hype and get limelight than the endless pop/X-Factor drivel that gets rammed down peoples throats.

It's not an either or situation though. You make it sound like you have to buy into the x-factor connected pop.& the only other alternative is garage / '60's beat derived pop-rock.There's a far bigger rock world out there that can be discovered. There is also alot of other great music out there that isn't in the rock sphere as well.Alernative music isn't just about rock music (although my personal bias is towards rock).

The celebrity based pop world has nothing to fear from the rock world if all they have to compete with is bands like the Vaccines to put it another way.

My eldest son saw them support t'Monkeys in Newcastle and was converted. Said they were brilliant live (t@monkeys crowd aren't exactly an easy crowd to please if you are a support act!). I've heard some of the album second hand (i.e being blasted out of his bedroom) and it sounds OK.

They're a little bit indie by numbers, but like other people have said, they're excellent live, and have some pretty decent songs - stuff like Norgaard & Wrecking Bar especially.

i really liked the album; If You Wanna, Post Break-Up Sex and Wetsuit are three modern day rock classics imo. i feel though they are in a tough market atm, as if they had released their material maybe a few years ago they could have charted in the top 40 with a couple of these songs. Overall, i think they are good and would like to see them live and release another album
