Judi Spires?

I have just been flicking through some old youtube clips and came across one from Pebble Mill At One where Sherrie Hewson fell down the stairs on her entrance! The host rushed over to help her up and nearly skidded over herself in the process!

When I looked at the host, I could place her face but just could not remember her name. It was only when reading the comments accompanying the clip that I was reminded that her name is Judi Spires.

This got me thinking...WEHT her??? I "wiki'd" her and found she has been presenting a show on Radio Devon for the last seven years. I think this is such a waste because, as I remember her, she was quite the seasoned host and had a great personality.

I would love her to make a comeback to national TV...and what better way than as a contestant on Strictly? I reckon she's be a great contestant!

What say you??

I listen to Judi Spiers regularly on Radio Devon and love her show: she's hilarious! So I don't think she's wasted by being involved in local broadcasting..

I agree that she would be a hoot on SCD, but perhaps she is not really well known enough, generally, so I doubt it will happen.

Not that it means much but I certainly remember her and yes she IS and has a terrific personality

claim to fame

I was at school with her. I remember her in the school play, she was a terrific actress.

I remember her from Pebble Mill as well.

She has a claim to fame....an old boyfriend of hers was one of the Searchers IIRC

Okay, I concur that "wasted" may be the wrong word - I meant local broadcasting's gain is certainly national broadcasting's loss.

As for not being "well known enough", many will remember her from PM and she only disappeared from our screens 10 years ago...a relatively short time in television terms.

And while we agree she'd be a smashing contestant, I've just had another thought...if Tess ever decides to hang up her stillettos...can you see where I'm going with this...???

In fact if Brucie ever decide to hang up his shoes , you couldn't go far wrong with Judi Spiers

I remember her.
She's fab.
Would love to see her back on telly.

She'd be great on This Morning instead of Willie Holloughby and Pip.

She once presented me with a crab as a raffle prize.

I remember her looking at an unappetising fish pie in some sort of cookery section in a live programme and saying 'here's one I threw up earlier'.

She was funnier than the others with the mystery that was Gus Honeybun, too.

Very funny woman and I also agree that it's a shame that she's not on TV more.

How was that crab?

The name meant nothing to me, so looked up Google Images. In some pics she looked a little like Jill Dando.

If you would like to suggest her as a celeb on SCD10, why not email Mark.Lynsey@BBC.co.uk

I didn't eat it. I gave it to my mother (I don't eat seafood).
I'm sure it was nice!

Yes, she did look like Jill Dando. I think what stopped her being as 'big' as her probably was partially because she didn't want to be and she was (still is, I'm sure! ) a little irreverent.

I have dim and distant memories of her on TV. She is, however, almost 60, and - although very well known in the West Country - and - it would seem - still scrubbing up well - I doubt if she has wide enough appeal.

Quote:
“Judi Spiers (born Judith Marilyn Spiers, 15 March 1953) is a presenter on British radio and television.

Spiers began her broadcasting career at Westward Television in 1977, the ITV station for south-west England. She impressed in the birthday slot with Gus Honeybun with cheeky humour. In short order, she moved to the What's Ahead entertainment guide. She hosted local beauty contests Mr TSW and Miss TSW, reflecting the new south-west station TSW[1] TSW produced a nationally-networked daytime chat show Judi!, which ran for six editions.

Eventually, Spiers moved to national television, presenting BBC1's access television programme Open Air from 1986, and its daily magazine programme Pebble Mill from 1992 to 1995.[2] She also hosted a Saturday afternoon show on BBC Radio 2 between 1994 and 1998.[3][4] Spiers continued to work for TVS, presenting the networked show Scavenger Hunt.

Spiers has presented the morning show on BBC Radio Devon since 2005.”

On a show like this, such appeal would be gained from doing the show...and, more importantly, doing it well..which I KNOW Judi could...
