Seen as she is very of the moment, I thought I would ask what everyone's favourite Madonna studio album was?

Poll to follow.

Who voted for Hard Candy ?

And it alternates between Like a Prayer, Confessions and RoL, she averages one masterpiece (or very near masterpiece) a decade, so I wonder how she'll fare in this one.

I think ROL is also her best produced album. It was a shame she fell out with Orbit as he did an amazing job on it. Nice to see they've made up now and I'm looking forward to hearing the new tracks he's produced.

Ray of Light.

A predictable choice but one that deserves all the critical acclaim it's garnered in the last 14 years.

Now this is difficult she as a poster has said before manages to create a masterpeice album or two every decade.

ANd for me Like A Prayer is my favourite album of all time! But with this poll i will vote for the Erotica album for several reasons.

Personally while Like A Prayer is my favourite album of all time, Erotica for me is a definitive defining album for the 90s in music and culture, it really struck a chord and was an era that was such a dark period for Madonna. She risked making an album about finding your identity, exploring sex, relationships and consequences in a very political AIDs affected era at the time. And the album is a phenomenal body of work. I feel it always is overlooked in polls too so i will vote for Erotica.

But Like A Prayer, Ray Of Light, The First Album, Like A Virgin, Confessions On A Dance Floor and Music are absolutely masterpiece albums too!

Cannot wait to see where she heads musically with MDNA, how it will match up with previous albums of hers etc. As I personally feel that both covers are stunning, the title is poignant and she has launched the era in spectacular fashion (love of hate the lead single or think the Half TIme show was the best ever or not is up to you) But with her mixing it up with Orbit again and working with SOlveig, the Bennassis and Demolition Crew....this is gonna be an album that will definitely shape its own identity.

Album Rate out of 10:

Madonna 8 (I bought this album on vinyl in June 1984 with the old black & white cover, a year before they repackaged the album as "The First Album" with the coloured Like A Virgin photo image in the aftermath of her Like A Virgin album, and her brilliant (everything her 2012 Superbowl half time performance was not) 1985 Live Aid performance, that really made her massive resulting in her having the top two singles at the same time, a couple of weeks later)
Like A Virgin 7
True Blue 7
Like A Prayer 10 (One of the greatest albums ever made, spoilt only by that hugely disappointing Prince duet on Love Song. Why is it virtually every time she collaborates with another artist it is mediocre at best, and a let down at worse.)
Erotica 6
Bedtime Stories 5
Ray Of Light 9
Music 6
American Life 7
Confessions On A Dancefloor 6
Hard Candy 3

Like a prayer
Ray of Light

Two amazing albums but I went for Like a prayer for the fact that the songs are pure pop perfection

True Blue got my vote
Erotica is my second favourite
Music is her weakest album to date
I've never understood the hate for Hard Candy.

Most of the time I vote Hard Candy but today I felt it necessary to vote Confessions. I'm in a very confessional mood.

Ray of light cannot be beaten. I'm not too much a fan of the campery and wateryness that can come across with some of her stuff - for instance, her vocals are too bland in her current single - but on Ray of light, there's not a single song like it, it's complete artistry. It's probably the first Album I listened to all the way through more than once that wasn't a spice girls album (and I was obsessed, so that's a big thing). I still have Frozen on my ipod.. infact, I think it's 2nd most played...

Erotica - it was everything Madonna was building up to from Like A Virgin right through to Justify My Love....the backlash was spectacular and made me love it even more, it was also a pivotal moment for me aged 18 thinking "hmm I may be gay" - didn't drag me out of the closet, it took Janet's "The Velvet Rope" to do that 5 years later.
The backtracking Bedtime Stories was a letdown especially with America pleasing Take A Bow (which I like but it was almost an apologetic statement) next came "Something To Remember"ballads collection building on the "I'm sorry America" feeling. You'll See was Take A Bow part 2 even down to the video - and I loathed One More Chance at the time - love it now. THEN came hideous Evita....I only say that because I HATE HATE HATE Lloyd Webber's dated shows with a passion and musicals in general. I actually thought the Madonna I loved from 84-93 was gone for good and she was destined for Vegas....I actually believed she was over in 1997. But then came Ray Of Light - thank f***

Erotica. It's superb.

Like A Prayer,The First Album, True Blue, Virgin in that order.

Ray of Light is a class act, although my musical tastes had changed at the time and have remained still more or less the same since then, so didn't do it for me personally. The title track and Frozen are immense.

I have always had a weird taste when it comes to Madonna. Like a Prayer, I think is my personal fav but I actually like many of the albums other fans don't. I absolutely loved Secret from Bedtime Stories and actually liked the album too. I've never been able to understand the general opinion that RoL is her best. I find that album a little dated and of equal quality to Music - in fact I like Music more. As for Hard Candy, I loved the first half of the album then it got crap, but it certainly could of been a great album. The only one I don't really like is True Blue - far too sugar filled for my liking - apart from Live to Tell and White Heat. I absolutely hated the title track!

Over one period of time I find her Like a Prayer/Erotica phase her best, most diverse and daring.

American Life is my favourite. Although i'm not surprised that it tends to get overlooked, its still a shame.

Closely followed by Erotica and Like a Prayer. I also feel compelled to show some love for I'm Breathless!

Like a prayer confessional and a defining point in her career no longer just a popstar but an artist.

Like A Prayer is a great album - but some average to good material that doesn't fit...Love Song, Dear Jessie, Spanish Eyes. and the production of Till Death Do Us Part is a bit ropey.
