What liquor to put in a hip flask
My wife has bought me a hip flask for Christmas and i'm toying with what to put in it. I go walking a lot and want a warming tipple but I don't drink neat spirits. My favourite spirit is G&T or JD and coke but you can't put mixers in a hip flask as it ruins the flask and doesn't keep. The only spirits I like neat are sweet ones. I'm looking to put something in it like a winter warmer. Perhaps black Sambucca, port or something similar. Any ideas?

Fino sherry? Or if that is too dry then maybe a slightly sweetened amontillado. Just the right amount of alcohol to give a warm feeling without much burn (18% or so).

To be honest I'm not much of a drinker anymore so I'd prob fill it with water or lemonade and then Just tell whoever asks that I'm drinking whiskey!!

Either your wife knows you don't like neat spirits and it was a rather thoughtless gift.
Or she doesn't know you don't like neat spirits and she's not a very observant wife. Perhaps a thermos flask would have been a better thing to get for your warming drink?

Sherry sounds good and also the sloe gin. Not drank sloe for years so can't remember the flavour. Can't do cognac as it's too harsh same with whisky or rum although I could possibly do a cherry brandy. My dad keeps rum and blackcurrant in his but I don't like it.
I'm toying with the idea of maybe a liquorice or aniseed liquor, maybe port, sherry or if there's such a thing perhaps a liquor that tastes of those herbal tablets sweets for a real warm feeling when i'm out walking in the cold. I want to make sure it's something i'm gonna like before I go out and buy a bottle of the stuff. Perhaps a sampling session down my local pub one night could be in order. There's a pub not far from us that specialises in shots and weird and wonderful liquors. |

Not keen on schnapps as I don't like vodka and the peach stuff is way too sickly. Never tried grappa.

Glayva, a whisky liqueur. You don't have to like whisky, I don't, but I really like this. You need to buy a variety of miniature liqueurs to find one you like.

What about a spiced rum? Like Sailor Jerry's or Morgan's Spiced? Not as harsh as other rums and the spice would probably warm you up....I put Sailor Jerry's in my hipflask when I go to the football. Partly because I don't really like most spirits neat (like you) and partly because it's beaut!

Southern Comfort or you might want to give Jack Daniels a try.

I was just going to suggest Southern Comfort also if bourbon is too strong.
You could also water down the bourbon/whisky just to take the edge off. |

morgan's spiced has a vanilla falvour and is very pleasant. trouble is, any full strength spirit (35% plus) will tast a bit harsh, neat. I can't believe you can't put mixers in a flask. i thought it was milk products that were the problem. |

You do know that alcohol actually lowers your body temperature, and that the "warm feeling" is an illusion?
