Currently got an Iphone 3GS and keep hearing how good the Galaxy is. Anyone had both and got opinions either way?
Thinking of Getting an S2
I went from iPhone to SGS2 and have never regretted it. The phone I have is excellent, unlike the iPhone I'm still not bored with it...

Plenty of threads here describing both and this is likely to end up as a fan boy war.
If you have decided to make the move to android (I'm a long term android user) then the s2 is a good phone. I'd also check out the following as they all have pros and cons....
HTC sensation (xe and XL)
Galaxy note
Galaxy nexus
Experia arc s
I have a nexus as its right for me. Try each of the phones and see which one suits you best
I'm in the same boat, currently have an iPhone 4s and fed up with poor battery, can't send MMS which o2 or Apple can't fix for me and I think the camera is pretty poor as it takes so long to focus over the iPhone 4.
I made the jump before from an iPhone 4 to Windows Phone, and although I liked WP I really regretted the move as I don't think WP is quite up there yet and hardly has any decent quality apps, and all the paid ones are around £4 when their iOS versions are only 69p.
Do android phones use software to sync ie equivalent to iTunes or is it basically like a portable hard drive where you drag and drop music onto it through a computer?
I don't want to start a flame war so I'd prefer answers ONLY from people who have made the move from iPhone to Android or vice versa and why?

You can sync the S2 with Kies but its a crap piece of software , I just drag and drop far easier, you can also set up any folders you wish on the phones memory just like on a pc and when you open a music or video player app it will automatically show all media files on phone no matter where they are or how they are labelled

My main reason for moving was media support. I watch a fair few TV shows/anime/movies etc on my mobile, and was fed up of having to convert each & every video to an iphone friendly format before i could move them over. S2 plays mkv's & avi's straight out the box.
I was also fed up of being tied to itunes. It's a horrible, bloated piece of software. Kies is even worse, but no need to use it. If you need to install updates on an S2, use odin.

I agree with iTunes and the thought of drag n drop rather than syncing is great - although I do find iTunes really good at finding album information and album art, though it doesn't seem to store the art on the mp3s so they don't show on other softwares or devices as I found out with a windows phone.

On the other hand though, Kies Air is great. What it does is connect to your phone wirelessly and you can use it to manage your phone that way. You can use it to look through your photos, videos, play music, set ringtones, modifiy browser bookmarks, edit contacts, browse files (upload/download files) as well as send and receive SMS text messages all through your browser!
The main thing I use it for is the remote SMS thing as it's just easier to type SMS using a real keyboard (not a fault of this particular phone, just all touchscreen phones in general I find).
If moving from a 3GS, you'll find that the S2 is much faster in operation - especially so if you've upgraded the 3GS to iOS 5.0.1 as that seemed to slow down the 3GS quite a lot compared to iOS 4.x. I also find browsing much nicer since the screen is much bigger - 3.5" to 4.3" doesn't sound like a lot but it makes a big difference. The only slight downside is that it's of course bigger than the 3GS but what with it being so thin, it's actually nicer to stick into your pocket and you'd not really know it was in there.
It's a fantastic phone and I've not regretted getting one at all. If you're at all technically inclined (not a requirement at all) and you find yourself modifying and upgrading ROMs, etc. you'll love it even more

Yes Kies air is easier but you can still do most of what your talking about just by connecting the USB cable , which can be a bit of pain I'll admit, as for browser bookmarks I use Firefox and you can just sync that so it will just update from your pc to phone , never tried sending SMS like that though , might give it a try
