So she had a shaky SNL performance (which Juliette Lewis had no right to comment on) and there's rumours that she's manufactured. Isn't Rhianna? Isnt Pitbull? Chris Brown? I love Born to Die and Video Games - people should judge the music not the person.

a backlash is usually in response to an undeserved frontlash

why all the hype in the first place is the question most of us are asking

It's all the indie hipsters wailing now they know she hasn't turned out to be their little indie secret. They should do more research before going gaga for someone on youtube. Some of the stuff written masquerading as album reviews (especially in the US) has been absolutely ridiculous. Nice to see the public, as always, having the deciding vote on the album. 240k sold in just the 3 countries that have reported figures so far. The album is superb imo.

The backlash worked in her favour. She went from a nobody to A-list in less than 4 months.

No but she is well on her way probably one of the most talked about and bought artists out there at the moment all in 4 months or so.

And manufactured or not she recorded and released a solid debut that some will like and some won't we should let thge music speak for itself.

If anyone in this country acheives even a modicum of success then the natural reaction of many is to denigrate them.

This happens not just in music but in many other areas such as sport, and is a sad indictment of certain elements of our society.

pretty much because it's the 'cool' thing to do, but let's be honest... the backlash against her is coming from a load of people sat behind a computer desk, whereas in reality she (in the UK anyway) has just outsold all of the top 5 albums in her opening week. Pretty good feat for someone everyone seems to hate.

I keep hearing her miserable songs on the radio, and question why she chooses to spread her misery with the rest of the world.

Same to you Adele, cheer up, for petes sake!

To quote Morrissey, we hate it when our friends become successful. A sense of affiliated entitlement and vicarious ambition is fulfilled but at the same time a sense of abandonment and loss causes a feeling of dejection and in turn anger.

People liked her when she was "their find", now she's popular in the mainstream she's "overexposed and boring".

I wouldn't be surprised if LDR ends up being one of those
US acts that are more popular in Europe than their
home country (hello,Scissor Sisters! ).

How true. This forum should be renamed the Manufactured Female Pop Singers forum.

Er, no.

How true. This forum should be renamed the Manufactured Female Pop Singers forum.
Whatever it is at present it has very little to do with the meaning of the term, music. A misnomer if ever there was.

Gathering from some of these threads it's pretentious idiots who have this idea of what music should be and if it in anyway deviates from that cut and dry formula ''manufactured non real music top forty rubbish'' is usually the reply.

And as LDR has a rich dad and used smart business and marketing to get to where she is they usual reaction is to tear her down and metaphorically spit in her face

even though her music is better than the bulk they rave on about

Just in general this pisses me off. I hate the term "sell(ing) out"

It's people doing what people have always done: when nobody else likes something, it's cool to like it. When everybody likes something, it's cool to not like it.

She certainly shows the others how it should be done when dealing with her fans!

Lana performed at Amoeba Music in Hollywood this week. She "thanked" the packed audience, before meeting and greeting fans for more than three hours after the show.

"They're trying to get her to hurry up," an event employee was overheard saying. "But she won't. Most artists just sign and move on."
