Irish Traditional Music Thread

Any fans on DS?

Personally, I love traditional music especially the sound of a flute and button accordion (piano accordion is an abomination).

If any of you has ever been to a Fleadh you will see the appeal of traditional music and the craic that goes with it. So, let's all share our memories of Fleadhs and Irish music in general.

Here's a wee taster http://youtu.be/2ujquhIdbC8

I'm living in Ireland so I've heard a fair amount of it! Some of it is better than others. There's a group called Celtic Woman, who I would describe as a sort of Irish trad/Celtic/pop crossover group, but they are brilliant! I love them. You'll probably find some of their music on Youtube. I like Riverdance as well if that counts.

Haha, I doubt there'd be too many fans of it on here!

I try to knock a tune out of the banjo myself. Cavan last year was my first all Ireland, absolutely amazing. Can't wait for this year!

(Btw... strangely, that video you put up is an upload of mine) The lads won the Young Folk award at the BBC last night. Great to see trad getting recognised in England.

I used to play the fiddle and tin whistle when I was a child and giving them up is the only thing from my childhood that I regret today.

I have all the Planxty albums and for sheer musical pleasure and excellence, little else comes near to them. I really am a sucker for the uillean pipes. Incidentally, Christie Moore has been getting a fair bit of TV coverage recently - makes a change!
