Is it just me or has the last two years all of a sudden has had artists on clothes in shops? Well two artists, Lady Gaga and Rihanna especially.

I yesterday walked round a few shops, I did spot 2 Lady Gaga images on clothes in the girls sections of shops, BUT is Rihanna REALLY that popular? She had at least 4 men''s T shirts that had her face on it in River Island, another 2 in Republic (one which featured the CD cover image from Talk That Talk), 1 in Burton and 3 in Topman etc... and that was just in the men's section.

Why so many Rihanna images on clothing? I don't recall this happening a few years ago.

I've seen quite a few guys my age wearing Rihanna T-shirts. I never knew they actually sold them in shops though, I always assumed they had them custom-made.

I don't get what clothes have to do with being a musical artist, fashion/clothing trends bore me.

I wonder just how long before we see red Ferrari jackets hit the high street...

Gaga has had t-shirts in Zara and Top Shop for a few years now, but it does seem to be spreading.

I guess it's just a marketing thing. Rihanna's people saw Gaga's people tapping into an unconventional market and got in on it. It is effectively promotion, getting "cool" people wearing tshirts with their brand on. Walking advertisements.

Music culture seems to be quite on trend right now, the over-sized retro square graphic tees, "hipster" chic and faux-authentic band tees etc.
