best phone currently on the market for battery life

Hi

My dad is looking for a new phone at the moment.... and I know this is probably asked on a regular basis around here.. but what is the best phone for battery life atm?

(I've tried googling but the phone market changes so fast, its a waste of time)

He doesn't need internet, wifi, gps, anything fancy... his main requirements are:

Can Call!
can text!
has a camera
and finally, has a long battery life.

Touch screen or push button doesn't matter.

Thanks.

thanks - I have tried to suggest this to him - but he seems to want something flashy like an xperia or samsung galaxy... (despite me warning him about poor battery performance on android phones)

He doesn't want a "cheapo" phone, and wants to pay about £200

We have been looking at phones such as the Motorola defy, which is said to perform quite well in terms of battery... but now isn't sold in the shops.

The defy is a good solid phone (my kids have them) but i wouldnt say its extraordinarily good on the battery front .....

flashy phone OR good battery is sadly the decision ..... you can use apps or tweaks to 'eek out' smartphone batteries but your other option is buy an extra battery or portable 'rechargable' charger ....

thanks. He currently uses a LG GT540 but complains the battery is barely lasting a day.

I have changed all the settings for him. turned brightness down to minimum. dark wallpaper, no background apps, no syncing, 2g only mode, all wifi, gps, bluetooth turned off..... also updated to latest firmware.

Had considered a new battery... he seemed to think a high capacity one off ebay would last longer.. but I warned him to stick to genuine LG parts, rather than cheap chinese imports?

But think he has got his mind set on a new handset now. Showed him a simple Nokia phone which according to tech radar lasted a week in standby ( I thought would be ideal for him) but turned his nose up.

A day if you are lucky is what you are going to get with any Android based handset, if he wants 2 days+ then a S40 Nokia would be probably the only choice if he doesn't need smartphone features.

you get used to it. I work in IT so i have my phone charging from a USB port when im sat there. If im in the car i top it up from a car charger. i have a 'Pebble' charger for any 'emergency' charging needs.

dont get me wrong. i love my Nexus and smartphone features are great ! but they will be better when battery tech catches up

The custom ROM im using now lasts a day with moderate use but i still top up at every opportunity ......

Since one of the recent updates, my Galaxy Note has been lasting 2+ days with normal use rather than 'half a day if you're lucky' that it was before.

I think it's got something to do with being able to turn the browser brightness down.

screen on time tends to be the biggest battery drain. if you use it mostly for calls it will last an age. Also when i was on holiday abroad and turned 3G off on my Desire it lasted days !

The Note has a nice large battery though if i recall ...... lots of juice

Paid a fiver for an extended battery on the S2 on ebay. Does the job, but makes the phone thicker and needed a different battery cover. Only tend to bother now if going camping or something, the normal one lasts long enough now I'm not playing games every spare minute.

It's note just android phones, any phone that is thin with a large touchscreen is going to struggle to give you more than a day if it gets much use.

The Motorola Droid Razr max will have a 3300 mah battery (twice that in my SE Arc) so will last ages. Don't think it has been released in this country yet. But if Moto can do this in a phone only 9mm thick then the rest of them should take heed and catch up.
