UK entry Eurovision 2012

Who do people think would be a good artist to represent the UK at the contest next year. I think that despite Blue just missing out on top 10 that's still a lot better than an unestablished act and would be better to build on that. Instead of a comeback artist a current act who are big in the UK and minor successful in Europe is perhaps best.
The BBC must think the same way as I've just read an article saying the BBC shortlist is JLS,Katherine Jenkins,Pixie Lott,Charlotte Church. What does everyone else think? Who could potential connect with the European audience.

i would over for an establiushed act like pixie lott to do it but i think it would be too much of a risk for the artist

A rock band should represent the UK.

What about The Saturdays or even Girls Aloud? I know they couldn't sing any of their hits though.

Interestingly, I know my brother's mate Dan Pursey (he's English) from Globus has been approached.

He'd be amazing.

Yes, Globus is a band of over 100 members!

Waste? Really? This year the contest is the tenth most watched show in the UK with an average of 9 million viewers peaking over 12 million.

For the cost of half an episode of Dr Who and Casualty I'm sure we can allow a 3 hour show which millions enjoy to be aired once a year

I think the obvious choices would be : Beverley Knight; Anastacia, McFly

Same Difference should have been this year's entry, with this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-FdnLAg4UM

But as for next year, I don't particularly think we need a well-known artist, we just need an amazing song.

There is a strong rumour that Bananarama are going to be selected. With a song to be voted for by the publc.

I am sorry but people suggesting Pixie Lott, Saturdays or Girls Aloud must be mad!..as if they would do it
I can only imagine a current act writing for it rather than actually performing for it

I mean I am happy to be wrong

I love the bananarama idea..but are their live vocals good enough?

I know some people think a big current UK act entering is a risk but these artists Pixie Lott, Saturdays, Girls Aloud only chart in the UK and Ireland so surely representing and performing in front of the entire continent would be ideal for any artist to expand their fanbase outside these two countries. After all it worked for Jedward also if the Eurovision song doesn't work at Eurovision that's not the same as the British singles chart any act can redeem themselves on their next song like Blue for example.
If they come out with a great track it might go top ten in the singles charts as your only as good as your latest song so doing poorly at Eurovision shouldn't mean the death of a career surely?

It's a nice idea but I can't see any of those acts' management agreeing with you
Have Blue got a new single out?

Well, the British entry was the most commercially successful eurovision song this year out of all 43 songs in the contest. It managed to chart in 9 countries, whereas the winning song was a commercial flop. I don't understand why the British music industry looks down on the contest. You don't have to win to be a success. Look what happened to Jedward after taking part in the contest.

100m viewers, A European promo tour prior to the contest and if it's a good song radio stations across Europe will playlist it which is what happened this year for our entry. There's more to eurovision than just the night itself, it's what happens afterwards.

I suggest we look outside of the country- get Loreen or Nina Soderquist from Sweden!

^ that actually a good idea, we can get a US act to represent us! Someone like Kelly Clarkson would be good or Avril Lavigne, shes kind of fading now anyway so wouldn't mind the eurovision exposure

Good song. Would they have been able to use it though as I think it was on their second album?

Nah, virtually unheard of in Europe, even less than Blue were.

If you want to use the strategy of a known act then it has to be a proper one with a European audience, so Iron Maiden, Muse, Take That and Adele are the strongest candidates - but of course, it's highly unlikely any of them would want to do it. I personally think Iron Maiden would walk the contest, their fanbase in Europe is phenomenal.

None of my suggestions would do it. I would like Erasure or Sophie Ellis-Bextor to give it a bash.

Katie Melua apparently offered her services to the UK a couple of years ago (Josh year). Why Why BBC did you not take her up on her offer. There was some great songs on The House.

I came on here to suggest Steps but someone beat me to it.

Not a fan, but no denying Steps would be ideal.

Or

Sugababes.

One of the present line up came fifth a few years ago after all.
