Heya guys!

So I'm on my 2nd pair of GHDs, my first pair, the standard ones, lasted just under 4 years before they gave up and sparks came out of them, so I got a new pair, the GHD rare this time. I got these the summer of 2009.

They still work, but nothing like they used to, and I now have to hold the wire in a certain position with my little finger, otherwise they cut out - they're the ones that double bleep at the correct temperature, and bleep once when they're on - so everytime they cut out and then work again, I'm getting the bleeps! which is annoying!

Obviously it's not even been 3 years, and they're expensive! (I'm a student aswell, so splashing out isn't a big option!) So I'm looking for something as good, if not better than GHD's, for about £110 maximum (I can just about cope with these until summer, and then will be buying new ones with birthday money).

Any recommendations?

Cloud 9 - set up by the guys who started GHD. As good quality as GHD used to before the company was sold

When were GHD sold?!

And are cloud 9 something I'd be able to get in a salon? Or is it online now? I'm looking at their site now

sorry but cloud 9 looks rubbish to me

go with ghds, they have some on special offer at the minute starting from £79 but id go with the limited edition or gold series, they are better than the standard ghds obvs cos of the smoother plates and stuff

also you might wana take better careof your ghds, iv had several, none have exploded or broken like yours

I would be inclined to agree about the Cloud 9. The designers originally made the GHD's so the technology is likely to be very similar. The only reason why I never used GHD's is because there is no heat control, I don't really want my fine hair to be fried. The Cloud 9's have heat control, and work very well even at the lower temperatures apparently. Think I might bite the bullet and buy some, I've been thinking about this for ages!

Our original GHDs lasted 6 years. the ones we got to replace them lasted 1 1/2 so we switched to Cloud 9. Our hairdressers told us the new owners moved production to somewhere cheaper.

Same thing happened to me ghds are warrantied for 5 years. Contact them and send them back yiu will get a new pair

I'll have to see if my dad still has any record of buying them! But thats useful to know - thanks

you dont need any record there are numbers by the on switch that ghd use to identify when manufactured

my sister sent hers back and got a new pair when hers broke a few years ago.
