Pitbull could go into reggaeton, he speaks spanish and there is a big latin market. I think most artists will survive as they have strengths in other areas, be it vocally, or dancing ability/songwriting. Gaga was great on You and I, and being non electro is better for her actually. Beyonce showed she can do whatever and make good music. I think people changed directions, but didnt copy each other.
You have to remember that dance now has become an industry shift, and initially it wouldve been an internal shift. Also they make records at the same time, behind closed doors. Some music made in early 2011 has just come out now/will be out soon, so its not a case of bandwagoning at all. If you listen to guetta v gaga the music is electro but not similar at all.
Guetta is more club style whereas Gaga isnt. Some of her stuff you can dance to but most IMO, you cant.
I think its mainly Guetta to blame. He did start (in terms of dance) this whole feat. DJ business especially with big recording artists and his club records became hits (mainly here, he didnt get many big US hits before) and so people got used to it. Before he was good, but now his stuff is vacuous. He's a good songwriter though.
You have to sometimes listen to the lyrics of songs, most have a point. Electro/dance it doesnt matter, its the lyrical content that is equally as important - ie Poker Face, its a tune but the lyrics are brilliant, a song full of metaphors for a subject that is important in the LGBT scene, be it bisexuality, plus sex and gambling; personal stuff to Gaga. People seem to think Gaga is style and nothing more when she's quite the opposite.”
Timbaland is more to blame than David Guetta (or even Lady Gaga) for the generic dance music everybody is doing atm.
In 2004 it was dominated by RnB, and in 2011 it was dominated by dance. It was Timbaland (along with Nelly Furtado, Justin Timberlake, and many others) that bridged the gap between the two during the 2005-2007 period, until in 2008 when pure electropop songs like Hot N Cold, Disturbia, Womanizer, etc. were getting to #1. And THEN David Guetta blew up, so he only became massively popular after the dance music came back I think.
I'm interested for what happens in the future, but the chart music that past few years has been very boring imo. It found it very exciting before though.
