2000AD birthday prog (1771)
35 years of thrill power.
![]() The birthday prog (1771) has two new 'What if' strips. Here's some of my own suggestions... Judge Fred – Hanna-Barbera’s unsuccessful 2000AD pilot cartoon concerning the adventures of a stone age law enforcer. Rouge Trooper – a genetically engineered soldier goes on an AWOL killing spree due to his first name constantly misspelled by Souther Command. Flesh – Pat Mills’ classic tale of 21st century overweight women being hunted down by anorexic Death Squad cops. Invasion 2012 – Bill Savage liberates Gibraltar from the evil Spanish dictator Carlos 'the squirrel' Ezquerra. XYZ Warriors – defunct war robots are brought back into service in a quest to find out what the heck their initials stand for.

Just started picking up the digital copies to read on my tablet. Thought Prog 2012 was a good place to start. Haven't read regularly for many years.

Man this makes me feel old - I remember buying the first few of these when I was young - no I dont have them anymore ( heaven know what happened to them).
I picked it up again in my late teens and but then stopped reading it. Have not read in years but might be tempted to pick up and anniversary copy ! |

I started reading it back in 1983. I am a proud 2000AD geek!

I was sick so couldn't go down the comic shop last week. usually the London Forbidden Planet has backissues from the previous 2 weeks. But didn;t have any of 1771, nor did the other 2 shops in the west end (orbital and gosh) and even the 2000ad site doesn't have a copy in the backissue section. What gives?

I guess it must've sold more copies than usual. Collectors, you know? Keep an eye on that back issues page, because if they do get any copies returned, it'll no longer be listed as unavailable.

I loved the birthday prog. Had a wonderful feel of the old 2000AD and the new. According to a very recent Pat MIlls interview, he hopes to do a new full series of The Visible Man. The birthday prog 'What If' VIsible Man story is unlikely to be a one-off.
The art on the 'What If' Strontium Dog seemed more like Hector Ezquerra doing the finishing (Hector wasn't credited as an artist). Looked different to Carlos Ezquerra's classic style. The story was suitably downbeat. "Farewell.... Johnny." |

I do have one slight concern over the current Nikolai Dante story. It appears to be the final battle but what's happened to Konstantin? He is Dmitri Romanov's bodyguard and his son. I'm sure he was standing next to Dmitri at the wedding but he's disappeared. Wouldn't Konstantin have protected Dmitri?
Perhaps he'll appear in the next few episodes but it does seem a bit strange how he's disappeared from the last few parts of the story!

Whoops!
Just saw the panel in part eight (Prog 1770) where Konstantin is hit by the rubble. Page six of the story, panel three. That explains why he hasn’t helped Dmitri. He’s unconscious or dead! I never noticed that. Yes, silly me.

The future of Nikolai Dante is revealed on the official 2000AD forum. No details are revealed about the plot but you can find out how much longer the saga has to run.
This week's cover was fantastic - Age of The Wolf. Lovely double spread: http://2000ad.files.wordpress.com/20...000ad-1772.jpg ![]() Next week's cover is fantastic too. Very shocking! |

I thought the portrayal of the Royals as a bunch of post-apocalyptic slave traders was ideal for the Diamond Jubilee!! ![]() Do you have a link to a pic of next weeks cover?? |

I see from this week's Prog that a new Durham Red story is on the way. It would appear to be, at least partially a flashback as Johnny and Wulf seem to be in the preview frame.
