Oh, I don't even hate it from an angst perspective. I never saw it as particularly angsty, idk. It never really affected me at all- I was just too happy to see Christian again, to see Syed actually talking and to see them together. The only bit I found painful was the 'controlling' bit, but I think it was probably just the appearance of Amira I found painful.

BiB: I never saw it as him trashing their whole life together. I mean, loads of people see it that way, but, honestly, that interpretation didn't occur to me until I read posts on here. I saw that as totally business-related and how Amira had gotten into his head, a bit, about a masseur not being a suitable career. While his masseur job is representative of his free life, and I was kind of sad to see him trashing that, I never saw the 'self-respect' mark as really having anything to do with his and Christian's relationship. I think that's an unpopular view, though, most people see it like you do.

That's all interesting to read - I'm glad some people can see it differently.....always good to read an alternative pov.

Yes, this is exactly how I see it. I do agree with you on pretty much everything regarding readings of scenes, so I'm not really surprised, but still.

IDK I always use strong person because strong men make me think of the guys on World's Strongest Man.

I use strong person for both genders though, like 'she's such a strong person' I wouldn't say 'she's such a strong woman'.

I think strong woman is basically a character type or characteristic of people though. Strong man not so much because men are expected to be strong anyways.

I've now typed strong so much it looks weird.

I'd be more worried about him if he didn't show a bit of fighting spirit here...you would wouldn't you if the person who dumped you...refused your calls...suddenly came back..not even to see you really and mocked how you'd been coping. If it was me he'd be lucky to still have his head on...(must be the mention of Queen Maria that brought that on!) There have been times when I'm sure he's felt Christian was too controlling too anyway...I have... but hopefully it's just a case of not knowing when to switch the gay guru thing down a bit. I certainly didn't have a problem with Syed fighting back..I applauded it.
