Hey

Thought I would post this deal for a great Android phone at Asda - http://direct.asda.com/HTC-Evo-3D-An...efault,pd.html

HTC have also announced that it will be getting ICS which makes it great for future proofing.

Specs can be had here - http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_evo_3d-3901.php

It's going around the same price now as lower end HTC phones which are not getting ICS whilst its similar spec'd Sensation phones are going for a much higher price.

Makes me worry that HTC are selling them off quick to minimse the losses from the phone, it seems as if the 3D aspect has not taken off as they'd hope it would. Nintendo are learning the same lesson from the 3DS.

To be honest, and I mentioned this elsewhere, to go from being one of the first HTC phones to get ICS to potentially being one of the last doesn't bode well. I've seen other companies reduce the price of their device and delay software upgrades like this and the general theme they have in common is that support for the device is dropped soon after, It does feel to me that HTC are allowing ASDA and other retailers to drop the price like a stone in order to clear stock and minimise losses.

Cracking phone, I bought it when it was near the £500 mark (ouch!) near launch time, just be aware as AxeVictim said, if you're expecting ICS on it, you'll either have to wait and hope HTC don't drop the phone or root it and put a custom ROM on it.

I thought HTC said this was getting ICS soon? I recall reading it.

They are simply hitting sensible prices.
£500 for a phone always seemed madness.
Those dual core boards inside cost about £15.
AM sure netbooks cost more to make.
It has decent specs such as that new standard MHL/HDMI socket. That 540 x 960 screen would be nicer at 4.5".

Prices are high at launch to keep the networks happy. Important when you consider we are about the top country in the world for contract purchases.

If that's the case, why are the similar spec'd Sensation phones not dropping anywhere near as much as the EVO 3D?

It's a niche and maybe younger person's phone that is not in high demand from contract buyers.

Stick an Apple label on it and it would be massive.

Great tip, thanks Gormond.

I've been in the market for a new Android for ages, and wanted one which will run ICS but won't cost the earth - was looking at north of £500 for an S2.

Whilst this is a little older and chunkier, that's an amazing price - I've just ordered mine!

Looks like you can also get 2% cashback on this if you do it through Quidco - not to be sniffed at!

I see that the EVO 3D is now £207 at ASDA. A bargain, it's a pity I paid £229.

£207 is an absolute bargain for this phone.

I've had mine a few weeks now. It's really fast, (on par with S2), and the screen is just gorgeous.

Despite concerns, I haven't found it too chunky to fit in my pocket. The only thing I would say is that the battery life isn't amazing - even for a smart phone.

The 3d functionality really hammers the juice. By the way, I bought this phone because it was a great price. The 3d functionality is a bit of a gimmick. Does look pretty though.

Anyone got any ideas on a date for it getting ice cream sandwich? HTC have confirmed it as "later in the year..."

They may have had to drop the price, but they've sold 16.5million so far - their fastest selling DS to date.

Silly question perhaps, but what exactly does the 3d apply to? games or anything? and I believe it works without any glasses? (how?!)

The technology is the same as the Nintendo 3DS uses called parallax barrier. The downside is you need to look at a certain angle for the 3D to work.

The 3D applies to sense UI I think, there is no reason why games cant add support for it if they wish

ok cheers, I wonder how useful it actually is....but the phone does get some good reviews regardless of whether you want 3d or not.

I agree it would still be a good buy even if it didn't have 3D.

I've had this phone for a few weeks now, it's excellent and surely the best bang for your buck android device at the moment. £207 is an absolute steal.

The 3d does work surprising well, but even so I think it's still a gimmick. The good thing is that It doesn't get in the way or affect the normal 2d opration of the phone. I think this perception of 3d as a gimmick is what is driving the price down on these phones.

If you don't use the 3d then I think that once you have gone through a few charge cycles the battery life isn't too bad. For me it lasts all day which is fine as I charge it evey night.
