#1s from New Katy Perry LP Will NOT Count To Her #1s Record
I don't understand why, I think it is stupid, as the sales of 'Dream' and 'Confection' will be counted together but the singles will not.
I think it is unfair towards Katy. But hey... What do you think... Here is the statement from Billboard: Perry and Jackson will remain tied for the most Hot 100 toppers from any album regardless of the performance of any singles from Confection. Should any song released from Confection reach No. 1, it would count as a Hot 100 No. 1 from Confection and not Dream. |

Meh, I don't mind really. And I doubt Katy or her record label mind too. If they did care so much, they wouldn't be releasing tihs and they'd find another way to get more #1s from the album. I'm just excited to hear the finished versions of the new songs.

What happens if she releases another cut from Teenage Dream but it also featured on confection? Would that count?

I hope the songs are good.
Where do you think the album will chart? |

I think it is fair, I'm a big fan of Katy, and MJ, but I don't see how changing up songs so drastically to increase airplay and sales to try to beat a record is fair on MJ when he left his pretty much unchanged (and he never needed to add anyone to them)

Its highly likely that had this been a level playing field (ie the release pattern the same as MJ) , she probably would not have the 5 or 6 number ones that she did.
All this tampering and rule changing is a joke. MJ released a dance mix of Black or White three or four months after the original single back in 1991/92, and yet it was classed as a separate release. Katy Perry does the same thing more or less and it is treated as one release. In the US, Billboard did not recognise that Billy Jean was the best selling US track the week after MJ died, because the rules there no don't allow for songs over two years old to quality for the hot 100. And yet back in 1988, they had no such problem in UB40 reaching the top with a song (Red Red Wine) that was at that point 5 years old already. They seem to change the rules over the year's (both in the UK and the US) to meet music industry 'whim's'-or which artist's they want to push. |

Thats good!
tbh its pretty clear her team were desperate for Katy to break records and MJS record. Im sorry but someone like Katy Bloody Perry does not deserve to have those titles. She needs to bloody move on from this album and start a new era they have dragged this out for so long. |

Almost all artists have remixes of their songs that are completely different to the originals on iTunes. They just don't promote them, so they don't sell anything. |

She needs to bloody move on from this album and start a new era they have dragged this out for so long. She is hardly a puppet, she (co-)writes her lyrics, contributes to production, performs fairly well, is likeable and fun, and the public clearly likes her music. She has had so many hits lately because her music is what the majority of the record buying public wants. I get that MJ is/and will alway be a music legend, but Katy isn't forcing anyone to break records for her. The American public loved, and therefore bought the first 4 singles and got them to number one, then the talk of tying with MJ's record started, and TGIF was released (A song that was pegged as a potential future hit when the album was released), the public bought it, radio loved it, it got to number one. Sure there was the Missy Elliot remix, but who, in all honesty, contributes that remix to it's overall success. TOTGA was a bit excessive but I loved that they acknowledged that they were just giving a try at breaking the record "nothing ventured, nothing gained". It still did well, long before the B.O.B remix. Just because the record was held by such a well-reknowned artist like MJ, doesn't mean it can't be broken by anyone. In my eyes, Katy is a smart, talented POP artist who is successful for a reason. She deserves those titles as much as anyone successful on the music scene today really. it's a new generation, we can't all constantly look back at MJ's success. |

Yeah, but it's been that way for over a decade now. Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, etc. were using remixes to get to #1 10 years ago. There's nothing wrong with it.

I'm a big fan of KP and adored TD but i'm sorry the whole re-release is a rip off three songs cut from the original and the countless different versions of the singles released move on release actual new material and stop milking this era and short changing fans.

also, at least she wont tie or break janet jackson's record for the most top 5 in one album. which janet did on rhythm nation 1814. she did it from 1989-1991. with songs like miss you much, the title track, escapade, alright, come back to me, black cat and love will never do without you.

Did any of them get to number 1?
4 X no 1, 2 x no 2, 1 x4. It remains an unbeaten record. Pre download era. Much bigger album sales then Ms Perry. None of them remixed either Of course the music industry have all but wiped Janet's achievements out of the history books (or so it seems). |

Janet had 7 top 5 hits on the Hot 100 from Rhythm Nation.

None of them remixed either Of course the music industry have all but wiped Janet's achievements out of the history books (or so it seems). Infact, one of her singles from Rhythmn Nation WAS remixed to have a featured rapper, although it was the one that only charted at #4. So kind of like the equivalant to The One That Got Away. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgeAUejUZhg&ob=av2e http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFgB-DeMzlU I like Janet Jackson, and I love it when artists release remixes, but it's just the double standards people have that annoy me. Remixes went out of fashion a bit during the 2007-2010 period, but before then they were very common, and most songs that got to #1 would have rap remixes. Katy has done nothing wrong, and people wouldn't have batted an eyelid if she was doing this in the late 90's or in 2004 or something. |
