My dad was a huge comic fan - we even have first edition of 2000 AD.

So I went to the attic last week and was going through some stuff and discovered this extra pile of comics. I was like WTF! There were like an extra 500 comics if not more. The interesting thing they were all - Whoopee, Whizzer and Chips, Beano, Dandy, Bunty, Roy of the Rovers, e.t.c They were all totally British comics which made it really awesome! Dont get me wrong I like Marvel but I like the funny Brit stuff

Oh yeah I forgot my original question, how many comics have you got?

I think we have like 5000+ Dunno maybe even more cuz my dad said more were are at grandpa's place but I never saw them, maybe they are in the attic too?

Whatever you do don't make the mistake I made 30 years ago when they were all chucked (not even recycled - was in the days before recycling!). Lived to regret that - as I had no.1 issues, complete collections, summer specials etc.. of British comics.

Recently managed to buy all the Action annuals I originally had, some summer specials and no.1 issues. Nothing like the amount I had, but a nice wee reminder of simpler days! That will do me - though would like to get some Victors and Tigers in time.

If you plan to get rid - then make sure you contact a reputable dealer to buy them from you. Don't make the mistake of just offloading them at a car boot sale or worse still as I did just dumping them!

I have been reading Viz since about issue 25, and I still have them all right up to the current issue, which is number 213

None. Read'em and pass them on or swap them. If there's anything I think I'll really want to read again I'll pick up the TPB at some point - and probably pass that on as well eventually. I'm trying to eliminate clutter. Digital is a godsend.

A reputable dealer? Comics in bulk go for pennies each. I priced up some 2000AD and Actions from about 1977-8 that I had and it wouldn't pay me to sell them. I gave them away in the end.

Fifty, sixty plus year old comics are a different prospect, but nowadays EVERYTHING gets bagged. For the past thirty plus years every issue of virtually every comic released has thousands of people bagging it as a potential investment. The collectible craze from the 80s killed the viability of making money holding on to your comics.

I agree with what you say re bulk - but collectors will still pay for comics of certain note & time - pre 1980s. A no.1 issue, or the last issue, or in the case of Action last issue before the ban, 1st issue post ban, last issue before a merge etc.. etc.. You will still get a fair price if you are selling such comics as a one off. Even "ordinary" issues of certain comics do sell on Ebay and the Action annuals are selling for more now than what they were just 5 years ago.

No idea of the actual number of comics, but I have 5 long comic boxes full (they hold about 300 each I think), also have a lot of 2000ADs from number 1 until about 4 years ago, and a 6ft wide floor to ceiling shelf of graphic novels.

As dadioflex said unless you have something really old it's probably not worth as much as you'd expect.

I have complete collections of Hellblazer and Sandman in comic form and they'd not even sell for what I paid for them.

That first edition of 2000AD is probably taking up a lot of space in your place - I'll take it off you, if you like.

I'm surprised you couldn't sell your 1977-78 comics TBH. Did you try ebay? It takes a bit of time and effort setting up an account and listing and doing research to setting prices/see what's selling and their fees are crap, but even with the credit crunch, I've found bronze-age and popular modern comics (Amazing Spider-man # 300) still sell well.

For me it was the nineties that killed comics. Sub-standard creativity and the rise of the "collectors edition". Luckily for me, I more or less stopped buying comics in the late eighties and even at the peak of my ebay trading around five years ago I hardly touched anything from the nineties as there was almost no re-sale value, even then.

Good God, porn with pubic hair? Imagine.
I wonder what the collecters would call that? Hairy-age porn?

I used to have boxes and boxes of them, but when i moved out of my parents house about 15 years ago i think one of my brothers sold half of them. Then when i finally moved them into my house, i ended up giving them away to a friends son as he was really into his marvel/dc superheros. I don't regret giving them away as i hope they give him the same pleasure i had from reading them when i was his age.

it wierd as i can still remember being about 8 years old and buying the Marvel UK issue 1 of Action Force weekly, which came with No 2 free.

I can actually still remember the panels and some of the page layouts. Its amazing how this particluar medium can have such a lasting inpact.
