Help with Blackberry Please

11-02-2012
Hello

I am looking to a new smart phone for when my contract is up. I am thinking of a Blackberry. I do not use the apps on my current phone. I mainly use the internet. Everyday it says page too big to load so I have to delete everything and then turn phone off and back on again for it to work.

I'd like something that lets me browse the internet, well, facebook, twitter, forums and my emails. That is all i mainly use my phone for. I occasionally text and call people.

What do you think?

Thanks

If your primary use of the internet is Facebook and Twitter, you'll be fine with a BlackBerry as you can use the official apps for it, rather than websites.

If you want to be able to browse the wider internet and use full size web pages then, in my opinion, you'd be better off with an Android smartphone or an iPhone.

If you're on a budget, then there are cheaper Android smartphones available, or you could look at the iPhone 3GS, which is the cheaper model.

Thankyou for answering me. My knowledge of phones is quite poor!

I do like to go on websites such as this one and other forums so perhaps a blackberry isn't for me then.

I don't mind getting older models of phones. I don't have to have the latest craze, just that it does what I want!

If you opt for a Blackberry be prepared for it to mess up on you all the time. All people on my facebook seem to do is moan their 500th blackberry has broken again.

Three's All You Can Eat data genuinely is ALL you can eat. No caps or restrictions. The only thing that you should check is that you have a good Three signal where you are. Don't rely on their website, get a Three PAYG SIM and try it in your existing phone (presuming that your phone is unlocked), or alternatively ask a friend who has a phone on Three to check the areas you're going to want to use it in.

The other alternative you have is with T-Mobile, who have also just announced a truly unlimited internet package called The Full Monty.

BlackBerry will be great for Facebook and Twitter and Email. But as others have said, not always the best for browsing, this is only because of the size of the screen though. The browser software on the latest blackberries is very good and responsive.
If it's just forums you visit, many forums have a mobile site, or you can interact with them using an app called tapatalk.
DS has a mobile site which loads really quickly on my BlackBerry.
If you like downloading songs, then you can get BBM music which lets you download songs on the move and share them with friends.
BlackBerry can also sync with your iTunes on the computer (if you use iTunes that is).

Why not try out a few different phones? There are BlackBerries with bigger touch screens if browsing the web is the most important feature.

I think I am going to go for the old iphone. it's virtually the same plan as i have now and price and i'll be able to browse the internet. i am assuming i will be able to listen to music on it and send emails too which is all i really want along with the internet.

There are so many android phones i wouldn't know where to begin. as i say, i don't need to be up with all the latest technology as long as the phone does what i need.

To be honest, the iPhone 3gs is showing its age now. I'm pretty sure you could get an Android phone from the same provider with a better screen, processor and camera on the same airtime deal.

Also, don't forget,if you're at the end of your old contract with Three, you're in a position to negotiate a deal: they'll want to keep your custome, so why not see if you can get an iphone 4 out of them within your monthly budget?

i'm currently with virgin so changing all together as virgin don't have iphones. my current phone is £20 a month. i am willing to go to £25. the samsung galaxy s2 is £30 and the nexus is a bit more i think. what do you think about the galaxy s2? the iphone 4 i have to pay an upfront cost which i can't afford.

the thing that worries me about a samsung (there is the s2 on three for £27 a month which is ok) but my current samsung keeps saying page too big to load when i'm online and i have to delete everything, turn it off and take battery out and put back in before i can load web pages. i am worried this will happen again, i don't want to be stuck with it again for 2 years.

Your current Samsung is probably a basic Java phone like a Tocco or something, or maybe a Bada phone like the Wave. The S2 and Nexus are running the Android OS which is MUCH more capable of browsing properly.

The old iPhone 3GS is a 2 year old model now, but would still be an improvement for you on what you're currently using. With regard to music, you can use iTunes on the phone to buy music on the go. For Android you can get the Amazon MP3 app in Android Market which will let you buy music from Amazon and download it straight to your phone.

Your best best is to go to a Three store and play with the iPhones and the Android phones and see which you like best that fit in your budget. Some people are happier with Android and some with iOS. Only you can decide that!

I've had the Nokia Lumia 800 Windows phone for just over a week and I absolutely love it. Dead easy to use and it does everything I want it to. It also looks very pretty, I got the blue one. Very smooth operating system. I had an android before and while there is nothing wrong with it I much prefer Windows. I got mine on 3 for £28 per month. 500 minutes 5000 texts and 1gb of internet.

You are right, it's a wave and rubbish.
I've been to the store and looked at a few phones the other week. I was only put off the S2 because of current phone. Now I know it's not Samsung as a whole, just my current handset.
