Do any of you like Madonna's 'Justify My Love' music video?
I think it's an eerie, sultry tableau of jaded androgynous creatures, trapped in a decadent sexual underground.
It's avant garde, it's pornographic and it's also fabulous. It's so European. |

Well as you may have guessed....i do love the video.
I love it for the fact that it is so subdued, funky, sexy and dared to cross the MTV line at the time. It as a song lends a hand to stronger elements to come with the Erotica era two years later. But Justify is such a funky, absurd song in its own right and really works with that trippy video. As you say it is kinda pornographic, but in what it doesnt fully reveal. I love those elements. |

I do. I'm not even a Madonna fan really. I'm young, was born in 92 but I did prefer her mid-beginning of 90s era though. Justify My Love was a hot video.

I think it's sexier than Erotica, but then Erotica is horribly un-erotic. She borrowed a lot of the imagery in Justify My Love, so maybe that's why.

Ive been watching this alot recently, personally i think its her best music video. I know she's made others that some people may think are better, its just I get goosebumps every time I watch Justify My Love. Its an electric, emotionally charged music video, just pure brilliant.
Its therefore such a shame that the video was banned by MTV and I believe it has only been played once since its release in the winter of 1990. Madonna wasnt happy it was banned as shown in these interviews to ABC in 1990: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3yvKGQl6A4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUtMg...eature=related |

Yes I really like it.
Although Madonna did things that made headlines, I didn't expect her to do something like that which was very non-mainstream at the time. |

I agree she looks very Marilyn Monroe in this video. I think her Erotica era was one of her most creative.

Yes, I like it
I watched it for the first time when I was 4 years old, but there was something memorable about it even then! It's a great clip

It suffered the backlash because it came across like she wanted to sex up the industry (with the album, book and film) which initally was her goal, but she realized she was loosing fans by doing so, and then tried to soften her image with Bedtime Stories and Something to Remember. |

I love it. It's similar to the French art-house films of the late '70s, mixed with a bit of Old Hollywood. It's also a terrific song, so different from anything else on the radio at the time.
The only two pop artists that have caused a similar amount of controversy since then are Britney and Gaga. |

Beautifully shot video. The imagery is amazing. Vogue and Justify My Love (and Bad Girl later) where to me anyway, her video high points-such a shame she didn't shoot a video for Rescue Me-that song had such video potential.
The parody by Wayne's World (featuring M herself is hilarious): http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8b...-featuring_fun |

Universally, Erotica initally suffered backlash because critics found it cold, sterile and calculating, rather than erotic which went against it. A few years ago though, it celebrated its 15th anniversery, and alot of magazines went back to review it, and admitted they were harsh, and found it stood the test of time, with songs such as Bad Girl and Deeper and Deeper.
It suffered the backlash because it came across like she wanted to sex up the industry (with the album, book and film) which initally was her goal, but she realized she was loosing fans by doing so, and then tried to soften her image with Bedtime Stories and Something to Remember. |
