Morning all

I've recently started swimming 4 times a week and need a decent waterproof mascara, that doesn't result in me looking like my namesake!

Does anyone have a personal recommendation please, I'd prefer it not to cost the earth, but if a dear one is demonstrably better I'd give it a go.

If you are swimming that frequently, I would recommend have your eyelashes tinted. They tint the top and bottom lashes and it usually lasts 6 weeks or so. Costs from £8 upwards depending on where you go.

So, how did you get your username, Gillypanda?

Good price AND absolutely budge-proof are Avon's "perfect wear" and the more impactful "super shock" mascara. Just make sure it's the waterproof version, as they do 'ordinary' versions too.

Can't say I've ever swam in them, but they absolutely don't budge during anything else I've done

A lot of branded ones do have waterproof mascaras. All you need to do is just ask the sales girl in the store

Yes I know that, but the sales girl will sell her own brand regardless. It was personal recommendations I was after, ones that actually stay put

There's nothing worse than supposedly waterproof mascaras not being waterproof

A real test of any product is if you end up buying it again, and I've bought those Avon ones time and time over (preference for the Super Shock as it usually only needs one coat too, a bonus in itself)

I was a lazy mare last night and went to bed with makeup still on (I know, I know, my bad) and despite having a cold so being feverish, coughing, restless, etc. it was still all perfectly on my lashes and no where else this morning.

It's also been road tested through funerals, etc. and stays absolutely put

I did get a Laura Geller one as part of a set on QVC - that was very definitely waterproof too, but needed more coats for less effect and was a absolute bitch to get off so I wouldn't go recommending that for that reason, but the thing about QVC is you can send back for full refund (minus postage) if after trying it you aren't happy. If I'd just bought an individual mascara I'd have sent it back, and as the postage costs are so minimal to do so, it might be a good way of testing the different brands they have out.

But Avon do a similar thing, and I think you have either 60 or 90 days? Can't remember. They are also infinitely cheaper than most brands, most times I got one it's around £8, which is a fantastic price for something that actually works in terms of the effect of the mascara and the fact it is so effective waterproof wise. Forgot about their refund promise, so defo one to check out no/low risk

Thank you very much again, thefoxmistress

I have used the Supershock mascara, but I must have had the non-waterproof version as I was definitely pandalike after swimming! I'll have a word with my Avon lady about that. And I'll also have a look at QVC - thanks again
