Tonight, when people thank Whitney in their Grammy speeches, remember GaGa did first!
Last year, so when she inevitably wins an award tonight and mentions Whitney she's not jumping on the bandwagon like the others will! "I wanted to thank Whitney, because when I wrote Born this Way, I imagined she was singing it -- because I wasn't secure enough in myself to imagine I was a superstar. So, Whitney, I imagined you were singing Born This Way when I wrote it." Quote:
I'm beautiful in my way
'Cause God makes no mistakes I'm on the right track baby I was born this way! |

Look it was nice of Gaga to do that but please don;t bring gaga into this. Today is the day to remember Whitney Houston, not to bring Lady Gaga into the equation.
It was nice of her though

What a pathetic thing to say. Is everything a competition now?

Why do you people worship GaGa? She clearly steals everything she wears from the meat factory.
Worship Whitney! A true Goddess. |

People have thanked Whitney and mentioned her as inspiration for years.
She was an inspiring artist, it isn't a competition of "Lady Gaga was inspired the most" or inspired first. She'll be thanked as a mark of respect to her legacy and her passing, not because Lady Gaga said it last year FFS! |

A lot of people have commented on Whitney Houstons talents in the past. I am not sure what point you are getting at OP?

From popjustice we learn of GaGa's special relationship with Whitney: Quote:
'For The Lovers' was one of the opening numbers on Whitney's 'Nothing But Love' tour. We went to the tour on a Sunday night in April 2010 and the first few songs, including 'For The Lovers', were incredible.
Unfortunately things quickly ran out of steam, and the rest of the show was rarely right or okay. We'd never seen so many people leave a venue during a show, but we stayed to the end because, well, it's Whitney, and you don't walk out on Whitney. Right until she left the stage there were flashes of brilliance from the superstar singer we fell in love with in the 80s, but it was sad to see Whitney struggle to hit notes. She seemed as relieved as we were when the show ended. While we were driving home Lady Gaga phoned. At this point her last two singles had been 'Bad Romance' and 'Telephone', so she was in the brief untouchable stage of her career. It seemed quite poignant to us, parked up at the side of the road at midnight on a Sunday, that we were talking to a singer at the height of her powers, having just experienced the emotionally draining reality of a Whitney live show. While Lady Gaga was talking about plans for her next video, we were thinking about how fortunes suddenly change, and how you can't look at, say, a 22-year-old singer sitting at Number One today and predict with any certainty how things will pan out two decades from now. We were thinking about how fragile a pop superstar's period of greatness can be, and how astounding it is when someone manages to make that moment last for more than a few singles, let alone to keep it going for well over a decade as Whitney did. We started to feel a bit less sad about the Whitney show, and just felt happy we'd seen her perform the hits live. And what hits! Bloody hell, you can't argue with those hits. One of our favourite Whitney images is the audacious cover of her 2000 Greatest Hits collection: it's Whitney, up a stepladder with a drill (!?!), mounting yet another platinum disc on the wall of a room constructed entirely of platinum discs. It's a light hearted image but, even so, it's hard to think of many singers who could pull that off without looking like a dick. With Whitney, you just think, 'fair play, she's sold quite a few pretty good records in her time'. Anyway the point of all this is that when Lady Gaga asked what we'd done that night we told her about the Whitney show, how it had been disappointing and pretty bad on the whole but it was still Whitney and blah blah blah. She told us a brief story which we hope we recall accurately, about an awards show she attended before she'd had any proper success. Maybe it was the 2008 Grammys or something like that. Anyway after the event an overwhelmed Gaga was lost in the room, just another wannabe singer with a deal and no hits in a big room full of *****. Whitney Houston saw this girl and beckoned her over. "It's alright," Whitney told the young singer. "Momma's here." It seems odd that Whitney should have picked out this girl from the crowd and felt the need to talk to her. Maybe that night Whitney was just as lost as Gaga. Maybe she wasn't lost - maybe she was just f*cking amazing. Maybe, like so many of the singers we lose too early, she was both in equal measures. It may come as a shock to the OP but people have been citing Whitney as an inspiration for years. You have to remember that the OP only ever makes threads to create drama, I'm sure he or she was banned for it not so long ago.

This is the most inconsiderate sh!t ever. You might as well just say "Aw sure R.I.P Whitney, but on the brightside at least Gaga has paid tribute first"
And yes it is true, people have cited Whitney Houston for years, way before Gaga. If you look at all the rising R&B females, they will have all mentioned Whitney as an inspiration. You need to get your paws out of Gagas ass! |

How insensitive is this topic. The OP should be ashamed. I'm reporting this thread! Absolutely disgusting.
