Another thicko question.
The iPhones are 8G, 16G, 32G, 64G does this mean how much memory it has? can you not buy a memory card if you got the 8G one?

does this mean it will get full up quick if you browse the internet do you have to delete history etc all the time so it still runs?

I won't be storing photos/files on it.. just music, but not lots.

You have to buy the memory you think you need with an Apple product. They don't allow you to upgrade with a card which is sneaky!

Needless to say Apple's price differential for extra memory is high in comparison to buying card based flash memory.

You can get lots of songs on 8GB 2000 MP3's at decent quality at least.

By the way with an iPhone its the same with the internal battery. It's not user changeable! So you have been warned!

As good as iPhones are, you are ripped off rotten if you want a bigger internal memory. You can buy 32GB memory cards for £30 now, yet Apple want to charge £100 extra for it [64GB vs. 32GB]. What's worse is that if you go from 16GB to 32GB they still charge £100 [which is terrible value for money].

A 64GB iPhone4s on it's own will set you back an eye-watering £700!

On the other hand, a Samsung Galaxy S2 comes with 16GB of internal memory as standard and it had an 8GB card inserted in it. If you wanted to, you could easily slot a 64GB card in for £75. Total cost £453 [with 88GB of storage].

thanks coolboy. i've never been a fan of iphones i just have been put of samsung. i think it may just be my phone that is faulty though. seriously considering the s2 then as i've found it for £27 which isn't bad for the amount i will use it.

So would I. You can upgrade the memory, use flash on websites, replace the battery, load mp3's easily and there are plenty of apps available.

Apple's memory costs and battery replacement charge is enough to put me off.

Be careful as cheapest is not always the best deal especially when you have to live with a service provider for 24 months.

For reliable voice and text in the most places choose an operator with GSM and 3G. Check with friends and family about reception in your area before commiting to a contract. Some networks only allow you to return a phone if it has been unused!

That would come in really handy for phones like the Lumia 800 and Galaxy Nexus if it works with these?.

Not sure why battery replacement is an issue. Myself and my immediate family have had approx. 10 iDevices since the first iPhone. Never had to replace a battery. Neither have I ever heard of one amongst the several dozen friends and colleagues I know with an iDevice.

Batteries do need replaced eventually and Apple UK currently charges £62.44 to fit a new battery in an iPhone. Price includes VAT and postal charges.

Anyway, I've gone and ordered the Galaxy S2 with three. If I didn't I'd keep changing my mine so just gone and done it. Thanks everyone and CoolboyA!

All the ones I've know have lasted at least two years, and I'd be surprised if many people on this forum keep a shiny new gadget that long !
There are actually benefits to a sealed battery, and from what I read about how Steve Jobs approached product design ultimate profit was not a driving force behind his design, rather a sleek design with the minimum of switches buttons and little compartments for things (like batteries)

A Samsung original Galaxy S2 Battery from Amazon is £8 delivered compared with the £62+ you need to pay Apple!

16GB of micro SD costs £10.55 from Amazon presently in comparison a 32GB iPhone 4S costs £599 compared with the 16GB model at £499. £100 more..... for the same 16GB of flash memory that Apple probably buys for less than half of what Amazon retail it for!

Sure no slots but what a lot you pay for such a disadvantage!

Minimum of switches?

There are 5 physical buttons on the iPhone 4. Three more than the Desire S

The 'replaceable battery' things isnt (necessarily) because your battery will break, its more historically that:

a) You can buy an 'extra' battery for those times when you might be away from a power source for a long time (although these new rechargable 'chargers' have lessened this problem)
b) It enables a full 'hard reset' - when phones used to crash and freeze it enabled you to remove the battery and force a restart.

Neither of these 'as' relevant these days.

The 'sleek' design is just a cop-out. The Nexus is a lot slimmer than the 4S and still manages to have a removable battery. The Razr, however, is the slimmest of the bunch and doesnt have a removable battery.

Id wager with the iPhone its more of a feature to prevent cheap knock-off batteries from appearing and maintain a closed revenue. Nothing particularly wrong with that, just dont say its 'to keep the design sleek' .....

oh ... and the Nexus only has a volume rocker and a power button. even the menu buttons are part of the screen

However ... back to the original point ... it only comes in a 16gb flavour with no SD Card Slot

Google expect you to you the cloud for storage. but with 1GB limits from Orange that isnt going to happen any time soon
