When your favourite singer dies
I liked Whitney's music, have all the albums, some DVDs, about 10 of her singles but she's not in my say top 20 and I'm still shocked and a bit upset at her death. I wonder what I'll be like if Janet, Tori, Kylie or Madonna die early - my absolute favourites. I think I'd be in a right state

My favourite singer did die.I didn't cry or get upset about it.There was nothing I could do about it and I didn't know him personally enough to grieve.

I dont think they will. Madge will keep going for a long time and is in no hurry to go anywhere lol. Also they'll be really old at the time too.

A lot of my favourite singers died 20 years before I was born (that's what you get if you grow up with parents who idolise classic rock musicians).
The only musician death to really hit me was Amy Winehouse, because I bought Frank when I was very, very young (I think I was 12) and told everyone at school about it- nobody liked it, apart from my eccentric American French teacher! When Back To Black came out I was thrilled and it remains one of my favourite albums to this day. Her death last July came when I was at a wedding, and I remember getting the text and feeling at once both sad but resigned. |

Madge is also TEN YEARS older than people like Kylie/J Lo/ Mariah etc.. Not that death can creep up on all of us at any point.

When Madonna dies I will be upset that a person who i grew up enjoying has passed and it will also hit home how old I have got.
I will however be happy that I lived through her time and be able to tell young people about the time i went to see her etc. A little like what grandparents do with the Beetles or Elvis. |

oh i know it can, but i'm sure she takes her health very seriously. Knowing madge she wants to be the biggest for as long as possible.
She will slow down in a few years time though. She will still perform but will rely on her dancers for the tricky moves. She will continue as long as SHE wants to. Might be 20 years, might be 2! |

Amy's death was a tough one because she changed how i saw and listened to Music
Whitney has always been in my top 10 female artists of all time so i am very much in mourning at the moment I still feel sadness for artists who died when I didn't know they died until i looked them up such as Dusty Springfield and Eva Cassidy. |

If Jessie J died, I'd be devestated.
Not really a 'singer' but when Cheryl anounced she had Malaria, that was upsetting as well. |

I also cried when I heard that Kylie had cancer, but I'm soooooooooooooooo happy that she's had the all-clear for nearly 6 years now.
![]() I also felt really numb when it was announced that Dave Gahan had a low-grade malignant tumour on his bladder. After reading Depeche Mode's 'Black Celebration' biography and seeing interviews from the 'SOFAD' era I made up my mind that I will never ever become a drug addict. |

You know I think it's sad when people try to belittle someone's death because they're either 'famous' or 'you didn't know them personally'...
I think people have every right to mourn a public figure who has in someway touched their lives. Fair enough if you didn't like the person on their music, you don't need to be sad or upset, but I think it's horrible that people would make jokes of either the dead or the people who were fans of said figure. Whitney was a music icon, and touched millions of people with her music. I think people have a right to be upset if they want to be. |

I think I would cry as I cried when MJ died and I shed a little tear for Whitney this morning. Hopefully When Mariah dies she will be old and will have lived a fullfilling life and in that it won't be upseting. If she were to die young or under tragic circumstances I think I would be very upset.

Immediatley when someone like Whitney dies, i automatically thought "her poor daughter". And i do, i immedatley think of their children. Because i do not know what I would do if i lost my Mother and how i could not possibly understand how they are feeling.

Honestly, I do not own much from Whitneys music, a part from about 5/6 songs i loved by her, however I did feel very shocked to hear her passing and felt as though I should give my respect to her. Despite the very lows of her career, I still hold a lot of respect for the woman, with a voice like hers she has been a huge inspiration for many of the rising stars in R&B and many females with cite Whitney as a huge inspiration. I also think it's commendable that her transition from music - actress was with ease because many seem to forget their musical roots, but Whitney held both. 48 - no age at all to lose an icon
For me it hasn't happened, I love Mary J. Blige, but I wouldn't cry if she died, I'd feel damn sad though. I have huge respect and admiration for the woman, she (like many other artists) started on such a high, then became lost in the world of drugs and alcohol, but has overcame it all and came out a stronger person. Like Whitney she's also influenced people with her music, especially being known for joining hip-hop/soul. I'd be devastated if it all ended so quickly at a young age and didn't have anymore music to hear from her. |
