Madonna Debuts on the UK TOP 40 at no...
....37..
Its sure to climb. I predict a climb to the top 20 next week. The song needs to pick up its radio rotation. Madonna also looks set to break UK album chart records by being the FIRST female to have a no1 album in the 80's 90's 00's and 10's Whoop! |

This will be a deserved flop by her standards.

It's a shame GMAYL didn't chart higher, but the whole pre-sale thing really messed things up for it. I've no doubt it will climb in the next few weeks though.

It was never going to be her best but the song would not be so bad if it was not for the LUV MADONNA they keep shouting. For me that totally ruins it, in fact it irritates me. It is catchy though and after hearing it once it stuck in my head. |

@WizzyWick Yes it is impressive. But this being her comeback single and considering it's Madonna, this is a flop.
Let's see it's chart run though.

not it wont climb...its down to 37 on uk itunes, but its a hit in the USA and will be top 10 or #11 at worst next week. UK radios are ignoring it.

Yes, I'm not saying it's a success. i think her record company should do more to promote this song in the UK. The freebie offer on iTunes was a barmy thing to do!
It was very clever actually, and madge probably was behind it, she is very smart. |

Not bad considering the itunes mess up, the USA exclusive Suepr Bowl promo etc.
Wild will be the one i have my sights on however Luyvin is okay, it is a fun record but thats it...whether it gets higher or not remains to be seen. But lack of promo for it over here means i doubt it will. But as i say the original intended lead single is the next one so we will see. |

I'm not that surprised.
A bit of promo would do wonders though. An appearance/special on Wossy would be good. |

even if she sang it here, it wouldnt make a difference IMO. There arent many big shows to be on, I think she'll be on the BGT live finals. With one show (results) just for her, and simon would personally make sure she was the centre of attention! MDNA selling is the main aim, as it is with any album.

Is she touring when BGT finals are on? I know the show kicks off in Tel Aviv at the end of May and she's going out to Tel Aviv 2 weeks before for intensive rehearsals, I don't think the UK will get much promotion. She's obviously more concerned about the album sales and tour

I love Madonna and always will, but to be honest I think the sun has set on her UK singles chart career.
Long gone is that fateful Sunday afternoon when the sense of astonishment was palpable as it was learned that Madonna had failed to go top 10 with Take A Bow. It takes a lot these days to overcome the hegemony established by the main 'big two' camps of teenagers buying that horrid chavvy 'RnB' that all sounds the same, and those buying middle of the road over-emoting from the likes of Adele. Witness last spectacularly failing single Revolver, alright there was lack of promo/video and all the rest of it, but once upon a time that wouldn't have been a problem for an artist like Madonna as her name alone would have shifted it. Still, she's had a pretty formidable innings and her record is one that very few will ever be able to match. Having said that though I would like to see her release Masterpiece as a single, as I feel it has the potential to go wider than the hardcore singles-buyers amongst her fanbase. |

I think her team are clever in targeting albums and tours as they know that many teens buy singles and M isn't an artist that will appeal to teenagers these days. They know all her success will come from the album so I doubt much sleep will be lost over chart positions of the singles

that's the kind of thing Cliff fans say, he's had hit records in the last 50 decades or something so he must be a great. Sticking around a long time is testament to nothing much

We will see what Madonna does on the singles front. I mean MDNA will be the massive pull...and i would rather she focus a lot on the album promo, perhaps release songs just for airplay and stuff to circulate the MDNA promotion. But everything is heading towards artists to focus more on album sales and tour sales. To which she is prepared to set new records
Cannot wait.

Oh I agree that the album will sell very well - I have no doubt about in fact; and that in itself reflects what I mean by where the Top 40 singles chart is at these days. It's controlled by a handfull of very powerful media/commercial factions that have a symbiotic relationship.
The day you cant actually request a song that you want to hear shows the state Uk radio is in. Awful. I was like 'ummm not dammnit, I wanna hear alex not Pixie!' |
