someone mentioned "rape"

would that be rape? I am sure other films have shown a "frantic" session after a long absence. Hardly rape? They didn't show the gentler second go, after the "quickie" did they?
Creepy scene all round - Brody's scars aren't just on his body that's for sure. My reaction to it mirrored Carrie's.

I'm surprised Brody didn't have some sort of psychological evaluation to undergo first.

3 days from being released from 8 years of captivity to coming back home. The bloke's going to be a mess.

Loved it. Lewis + Danes gave v gd performances. Danes was great in R + J + I've always wished she got more roles as she's such a good actress. Never heard of Temple Grandin, will check it out.

When he was being sick in the Plane, someone said...hadn't he been seen by the 'shrinks'....words to that affect.

Jess didn't look as if she liked it...and I was expecting Nick; was going to have problems, in that department.

^^ Not forgetting that David Harewood (Estes) is English as well. Played Friar Tuck in the awful Robin Hood series a few years ago.
And I see he still hasn't learnt to act in those years....

At least on Robin Hood that didn't make him out of place!

I've seen the whole of season one already but this is definately the sort of show you can watch a second time, it's that gripping. Carrie plays her part perfectly, couldn't imagine anyone better to play the role.

I remember a very young Clare Danes in an episode of Law and Order many years ago.

Also, although no-one's mentioned it, she did of course star in Baz Lurhmann's Romeo and Juliet.

Someone did mention it on this thread - I believe she was about 17 when she did it.
That's mostly where I know her from. She was mesmerizing in that.

I don't know if I'm hooked yet. Might take me a few more episodes, it reminded me of a higher caliber kind of 24 (which I was so bored with by the end. Might be the reason I wasn't instantly hooked).

She had better tone it down for the rest of the series. She is already operating at 11 leaving nowhere to go. Hopefully that was just for the pilot so the series would get the green light.

Not to sound all pervy but was there more sex shown after the 'quickie'? Just makes me wonder if the episode was edited?? As Ch4 didn't show anything else between the couple after that. Does anyone know if the pilot was cut?

[QUOTE

Claire Danes was in Star Dust which was only a few years ago but is almost unrecognisable in this.
Thanks. I've heard of this film but never seen it.

Hi RP, I've not seen Claire Danes in anything before either- very strong performance from her - looks like she's hanging by a thread mentally.

Isn't she just I'm looking forward to her and Brody outwitting each other.lol I'm sure Brody's going to suspect her at some point...anyway looking forward to tomorrow.

I recommended Temple Grandin which Claire won a Golden Globe last year.
And she was great in 'Baz Luhrmann's' Romeo & Juliet.
That looks good - I'm surprised I've never heard of it.

Oh, so I have seen Claire before - in Romeo and Juliet. Agreed, she was great...I liked her as Juliet.

I liked Damian Lewis ever since I saw him in The Forsyte Saga. Great actor. Just him being cast in Homeland was enough for me to want to tune in, before I'd even read up on the storyline.
I only managed to watch a few episodes - unfortunately the main actress put me off.

I didn't notice any cuts between the Showtime and Channel 4 versions.

I didn't get rape from it either. It was consensual but I understood the scene to be illustrating that she didn't enjoy it and he was going through the motions in his own world.

As for the show itself. It's interesting. I worry Claire Danes is going to ruin it for me. I'm not sure what it is.. but it took me a long time to like her character in T3 and I fear it may be the same here too. But perhaps the character is being intentionally annoying to begin with and by the end i'll be a fan. I hope so.

this show is excellent, it gets better and better as the season progresses, stick with it.

I don't think it was rape either. I think she was expecting her husband back, and it just was an example of how 8 years has effected him and going back to normal wouldn't be easy.

According to Showtime's website it should be 56 mins long, the version on 4oD is 53 mins long. Therefore we have probably lost 3 mins.

Some of that will have come from NTSC to PAL conversion, I seem to remember a figure of 6%, but this would make the show 52.6 mins. So I would assume that it hasn't been edited. However, depending on format the show was filmed in this may not have taken place.

As the show Channel 4 aired was probably strong enough to get an 18 certificate when released on DVD I would assume nothing was edited.

I get the impression he's playing a part (if we're to believe he's the traitor) and that was a sign of all his pent up aggression and frustration.

It wasn't rape, not least because she didn't shout stop at any point. But it didn't look like wholeheartedly consensual sex to me - not least because at the beginning of the episode she appeared to have a partner - who could have been reasonably long-term.

They were presumably consensual partners 8 years previously but I'm not entirely sure I'd switch back on to sex with a long absent husband (or anyone else!) with no preliminary discussions or foreplay. Though from his point of view, I can see the assumption could be made that nothing had changed.

It's an interesting facet of the situation.
