I'm quite tempted to get the original Israeli version on DVD as that's also supposed to excellent, but it's about £21.00 on Amazon!”
I've watched the Israeli "Prisoners of War" series now too. There are obvious similarities between that and Homeland but they are two totally different dramas to watch.
Both are excellent but I personally enjoyed Homeland more as entertainment and was more hooked in and desperate to see the next ep.
Prisoners of War is much more intense, grittier, truer to the desperate reality of being in captivity, has a tighter plot, is less sensationalized, less "far fetched" than Homeland and much, much darker. It has some great writing & performances in it but it is heavy subject matter too as a result of all the above.
It focuses more on the reality of what happens during and after captivity for the pow's. Prisoner's of War is a lot more graphic. Homeland skates over the darker elements to provide a more palatable series to watch.
I like a drama to be entertaining not so heavy so Homeland is my preferred choice of the two but I recommend both. if you get the chance to watch Prisoners of War, do but it's not for the squeamish.
