I saw it... it started with some kids pissed off because "Old man McCartney was there instead of Bieber". They were soon shot down by... well, the whole world

I kid you not.

It went from 'who dis old man, neva herd of him - his songs garbage innit?'

to

'I don't want to live on this world anymore!'

Still it gets Paul some free publicity, it's all good

That's like saying nobody alive today should know who Mozart, Bach or Beethoven is

Kids who don't know who he is are clearly too young/immature to be allowed on sites like Twitter in the first place imo.

I know who he is too, but at the age of 10 in a west indian household I didnt care who he was. I know who he is now, but saying as my family didnt listen to the beatles at all, he meant nothing to me. And i suspect most young kids of today are the same. I mean he was in a band from 60+ years ago. No shade, but c'mon. the beatles v mozart. Big difference. You learn about mozart via music at school but you know the name not necessarily all his work. Music at schools isnt high profile at all. Its an age of 90s singer...90s who? past a few years and most kids dont have a clue who anyone is. Most of my age when I was a teen (in 2004) had not much of an idea who michael jackson was. I knew, but they might've heard the name but didnt really know who he was - and boy...that trial meant EVERYONE knew who he was.

its not good music, merely everyone banging on about the beatles for nearly 60 years. So people are BOUND to remember them because people never shut up about them!

When I was 10 in 1985, I was listening to Buddy Holly a lot who had died 27 years before

The Beatles, in my opinion, are part of our cultural heritage. The fact people don't know who Paul McCartney is astounds me. Seriously, I wasn't even a fan of the Beatles until I was about 13 but I've known the name of all the members and plenty of their songs for as long as I can remember knowing anything.

my dad is a huge fans of the beatles. so me and brother were brought up with their music on around the house. i gave my brother a lift home at christmas and my nephew (aged 7) was singing along to `hey jude`. while my niece (aged 3) was clapping her hands!

their music is timeless.

What is not good music? I hope you are not saying that The Beatles music is not good. actually it is nearly 50 years not 60 but you just have to ask yourself why have people been going on about them for that long and why has their music lasted for 50years. Because It Is the best is the answer.

Not really. Im no fan but people keep going on about it. People go on about abba and bananarama but it doesnt make it good, music tastes are subjective. Personally i think its naff, but its up to you how you spend your money. Just because people say something doesnt make it right.

It doesn't surprise me at all that some young kids don't know who Paul McCartney is, especially if they're from the US.

I've only heard like 6 songs from The Beatles, 3 from John Lennon and 4 from Paul McCartney, but at least I know who they are.

It's not entirely subjective. Some music and musicans do turn out to be more successful and, more importantly, more influential than others. The Beatles and Abba come into that category and are more significant (over time) than many other artists.

It's not been that long since I was that age, and I definitely knew who Paul McCartney was. We used to sing Beatles songs in assembly in Primary School! And no, I didn't grow up in Liverpool...
