Open the box !!
Typical day last week I travelled to Exmouth for a birdwatching cruise.
I had previously booked the cruise after consulting the online timetable.
Got up - use old phone for that as it's LOUD.
Checked railway live timings (Thales rail planner live) to make sure I can start off - set route so the phone can message me if anything goes wrong.
Check weather - phone automatically has alerts for where I am - check webcam to see which boat I'll be on.
Check Emails and then watch films for 4 hours (phone plugged into train power supply)
Also check Digital Spy either with a Web browser or use UK Newspapers app which picks up DS.
Check RailUK forum with their app as travelling on trains so much I've got to know quite a bit how it all works.
Check Rare bird alerts to see in advance what's happening at Exmouth.
In case I'm called from work I have all work manuals on the phone.
If I'm going somewhere new I'll have a look at Google Earth/maps for info and consult Wiki.
Arrive at Exmouth which I know well - if I didn't I'd use the phone to find a Chippy & Bakery - I also have 'Toilet finder' app.
Devon has the Jurassic coast so I have IGeology app for that, Tide 7 app for will the boat float, Trees UK app for trees, Eurobirds, Birds Pro & WP checklist for the birdwatching plus online access to any info I want - quite amazing on these trips to see folk not know what a Grey Plover is when they nearly all have Smartphones - just don't know what they can do.
Trip over - photos taken - sounds recorded, got to get home - I have 'Catch that bus' app which gives departures for every Bus stop in the land however it's train for me so Rail Planner gets me on my way.
Some FM radio (built in), Freeview TV (MyplayerPro), Eddie Izzard recordings, American Cops on Scanner radio app, Absolute 80's app...near home I check live Rail timing to see if I'm going to get a branch connection or carry on and get a bus home (catch that bus).
My work is in Electronics so the phone has apps for that - circuit simulators, Cap/Resistor calculators...also have Sound meter & AudioTool for H&S measurements.
Got 'Instant heart rate' to check whether anyone at work is actually alive.
Also use Twitter but only to follow Public transport drivers - brilliantly useful.
